We've been AWFUL last few years vs SHU. For some reason just
under-achieved against these guys. Hope to reverse the trend
this year (twice).

We get two shots at them this year, too. It'll be interesting
to see how we handle them. They run a real conventional system,
with a pure PG and SG. They don't have big size, but they have
speed.
I hope to see our bigs, specifically Mayo and Warney, just take
over this game. I know thats not the style we usually see, but
they could become Joyner-Rapier, with years of eligibility.

We do have bad luck against these guys. Lets turn it around
Sunday, we are playing well so far with a mix of vets and new
guys.

We need to beat the Sacred Hearts of the NCAA if SB is to make
the program to the "next level." Until these types of games
become routine wins, we haven't yet turned the corner.

Couldn't agree more. Actually other than UConn, Maryland and
Seton Hall we need to run the table on our OOC schedule to get
some respect. Maybe a win against Seton Hall would be nice. I
watched Valpo the other morning rip Butler. Valpo , Gonzaga and
Detroit are all Mid Majors like us but very well groomed to
win big games at the next level.

i wouldn't even consider gonzaga a mid-major. Gonzaga is a major
team in a mid-major conference. that teams is consistently NCAAs
and get to the Sweet 16 every few years. Thats the team I want
Stony Brook to be. I want the Brook to play at a high level on a
mid-major conference. That should be the model to follow.
Gonzaga has become a hugeee asset for the West Coast Conference.
If we can pull that off in the America East or CAA it would be
great. For that you have to raise the bar in recruits, and
schedule tough, tough, tough!
but I agree with the rest of you, we need to beat SHU if we want
to separate our program from this low mid major teams.

Sacred Heart lost to Hartford last night, which frankly was a
bit of a surprise to me! They have a Sr. guard, Shane Gibson,
who will at least be scouted by the NBA this season. He has had
two poor games in a row; I would be shocked if he doesn't play
very well tomorrow against you guys. I agree though, you have
to beat this team especially at home, although playing them
twice is not the ideal situation. Hartford played zone against
them, while you seem to be strictly a man to man team, so it
will be different. I expect Coley to get into foul trouble
against Gibson, so Rouse will probably see some time guarding
him. I expect a close game.....here's a story on their game
from last night:

I stand corrected, it appears that Hartford played man to man
against Sacred Heart, which is a bit of a surprise. Still,
Gibson is the key for them. Stop him and you win the game
easily....
