Poor FG percentage, but the same for Marist so it worked out.
Good to see SB get to the line a lot. I think Pikiell was
generous when he called Marist a "very good" team...they had a
losing record last year in a weak conference...so I was hoping
for better than a three-point victory. A lot more baskeball to
play.

I actually thought you would lose this game, as although Marist
didn't have a winning record last year, they had everyone back
from a very young team. Add in a road game with a young team
and to me that spelled a struggle. I saw in the box score that
11 played, so that's good. Bracey/King didn't play a lot
though, which surprised me. Overall, the object is to win, and
you got that. Brenton's stat line always amazes me...depth
seems to be a key for you like last season; bench points were
the difference.

This is what I posted on the AE boards when I got home last
night - just copy and pasting it here. Marist had a 6'10"
center that was a perfect opening opponent for Warney and Mayo.
He was pretty tough. They had all five starters back and we
held them to 13 points less than they averaged last year. A
good start that will only get exponentially better.
Just got home. A win is a win, but... The more things change the
more they stay the same. Brenton was fantastic - double double
and a bunch of assists and a couple steals. The defense was
good. Marist returned all five starters from a team that
averaged 73 ppg last year. Coach Pikiell played 11 guys - and 11
guys in the first half. Seemed like we found the right
combination in the second half - up 13 with the ball and then
mass subs, no starters on the floor at all, and woomp it's a dog
fight to the end. This team struggles always to find ways to
score. I wish we could keep the defense we have and find a way
to get some easy baskets occasionally. By the way, whenever
Brenton tries to make something happen, it does. He gets in the
lane and either gets off a great shot, gets fouled, or dishes to
an open teammate for a layup. Warney and Puriefoy looked like
they were playing their first college games. They are both going
to be loads better the second time out. They both also had some
real nice moments with the typical "I can't believe he made such
a bone headed play." moment. The good news is that with so many
young players, this team only has upwards to go. Couple days
rest then on to 6am at Rider.
