I have been following this program since their D 3 days on the
sandlot and yes this has to be the highest they were ever
ranked, espcially as a Div 1 program. 10th is sweet!

LAst year the highest we were ranked was #16 in Coaches/#18 in
TSN

I feel bad for Albany. It seems like the TSN voters are doing
the impossible to avoid a NEC team being ranked. Albany has the
resume to be a top 25 team...

I wouldn't feel too bad for them. Now that they'll be in our
conference, they're going to start competing (and occasionally
winning) for our recruits. It's better for us if they stay
unranked.

Albany's rank was hurt by their own fans in the rankings. The
sheer amount of campaigning their supporters have been doing
since the preseason to compare themselves to SBU, then to Cal
Poly, Citadel, and NAU.
After a while, their arguments become background noise. Now
that they have a legit leg to stand on, nobody's listening.
Their schedule has been very similar to ours, but they don't
have any highlight reel players, no headliners, and that has a
bearing on the voting. To be blunt, Maysonet can hang with any
FCS team in the country. That gets SBU some attention, and then
people see how strong a team we've got. Albany doesn't have a
guy who can do that. They average 35pts, give up 20pts.
Against mediocre competition, thats not going to get you into
the dance.
Luckily, we've still got another 6 weeks of games to seperate
the contenders from the pretenders.
Back to the Gardner-Webb game, I expect it to be REALLY ugly.
They want to run the ball, they can't stop the run, and we
matchup very well against them. I'm figuring 42-14, although I
really like the direction GW is travelling. They'll be strong
next year, but Saturday is just not their day.

I think Albany has this identity issue they cant shake- that is
being in the City of Albany. Enough said about the them I
think we do well Saturday afternoon and the next 2 Saturdays
after that. We could lay 50 on GWU this weekend , see how it
goes.

Looks like LB Reggie Franklin is out this week, he's not listed
on the depth chart. I saw them pop a finger back in at the end
of the Charleston gm after he made the interception. Maybe that
has something to do with it. Would be a big loss if it were more
than a week.

I too think GW will struggle- but we have to replace to Gush and
this is a good week to start preparing for it. Perhaps Campbell
or McMillan fills in??? Coxson? Famulari? Or is McMillan more
of a pure slot?
I think i read that Francklin is out for 3 weeks (heard from the
radio guys). Again, a good chance for a younger LB to step up
against a team that we should beat (rather than the Cuse game
for example).
Ive largely ignored the Danes fans and message boards, however,
i have kept a close eye on their progress in the NEC. They were
very close to taking on SHSU less than a year ago.

Any time you lose 2 valuable starters in the same week it will
hurt you. Next WR really has to step up cause if they don't you
will see teams double Norrel and start putting 8 men in the box
to stop Maysonette and running gm. Def lost one of their better
tacklers off a unit that has been really good, but is vulnerable
to big plays. As far as Albany goes, we should not dismiss them
since we barely beat them last year, and I really don't think
pollsters penalize them because their fan base talks them up.
That's what fans are supposed to do.
