Close one today down in Conway. The offense looked fine, but
the defense was shaky at times, especially up the middle. Had
some trouble getting penetration, credit to CCU's offensive
line. They opened holes and protected Hilary.
Lisi (C) was a star today. He pulled often and lead for
Maysonet. The lead strong was effective, as it usually is.
I feel like this team needs a third down receiver, a possession
receiver, a la Steve Smith (the former NYG) or Welker. A short
yardage slot receiver that can sustain a drive and wear down a
defense. We use blocking TEs and sometimes Norrell/Gush get
double coverage or at least safety help.
Priore loves- LOVES- these play action QB bootlegs, where
Essington rolls to the right for a smash route (slot post; wide
out in). It worked all day and in fact, its worked the past few
seasons. Perhaps we need a slot receiver to run 5 yard ins and
drags under the zone coverage on 3rd downs...
CCU wore us down with first downs. But they also wore
themselves down with flags. Had some trouble with Hilary (he's
talented) and didnt exactly contain Height.
Im no coach, and Priore knows better than i do- but do we maybe
need to go bump and run against a team that can throw the pass?
Playing too soft will give a receiver a good chance at 6-7 yards
       every time.
Skiffy had a bad day. Its going to happen. Fortunately it
happened on a day it didnt cost us. GO SB

Watched the game on ESPN 3 - a real nail biter. Glad to see Lisi
getting credit for his hustling on every play. Did anyone notice
that the broadcasters couldn't tell the difference between a
left footed and right footed kicker? They kept announcing
Skiffington for the kickoffs when it was Graham Ball. I like to
see Maysonet keep padding his rushing records. It's always
exciting to see him in a play. The announcers made a nice
comment about looking forward to watching him play on Sundays.

We came up with the big play at the end. My god... A magical
fumble to seal the victory. Almost felt as good as Albany last
       year.

Priore loves to have the DB's play that soft cushion. To be
blunt, it's a prevent style. And at this lower level, I think
it works. Most opponents will have that critical drop/penalty,
or our defense can get a sack or turnover. Against higher level
opponents, it gets us into trouble. (Personally, I'd love to
see some bump coverage, or some press-man, but I don't think
it'll happen until the Liberty game).
All that said, when you miss 2 FG's and a PAT, and you still
score 27, you can fool around with a very risk-averse defensive
       scheme.
The game was exciting, thats for sure. Maysonet just keeps
getting better, Essington looked good, and not to sound like
"one of those guys", I think playing some close games is good
for the team. Granted, blowouts are better for my
blood-pressure, but this is the second game that they found a
way to win despite adversity. That will help a ton as the end
       of the season comes up.

From Greg Logan: Sad news. @WUSBSportsRadio reporting
season-ending broken collarbone for senior WR Jordan Gush. Big
       loss of clutch performer.
Ouch. Thats not a nice way to end someones college career. I
wish him the best in life and thankful for his commitment to
       Stony Brook.

Damn...that is a tough way to end your career...time for Coxson
       to step up.
All the best to Gush...I'm sure he will be on the sideline
firing up his teamates down the strech run....

Gush is a huge loss, he was a chain mover. Great career.
