My midseason awards
By: jaghatai Date: October 4, 2012, 10:17 pm
---------------------------------------------------------
With the non-conference schedule complete, we’ve hit the
“mid-season”. Given that (and the fact that this Thursday Night
NFL game is REALLY bad), I figure I’d write up my mid-season
awards. If nothing else, it's a good way to kill some time.
These awards are in no way affiliated with anything other than
my own skewed thoughts. Seriously, if you are able to read
this, you should probably read something of value, not my
ramblings about riding the Marcus Coker bandwagon.
Most Valuable Player = Miguel Maysonet
He’s really good. I’d give stats and analysis, but it’s better
to just watch this:

Defensive Player of the Year = Davonte Anderson
This was close, but he's the guy standing out in the crowd right
now.
Rookie of the Year = Victor Ochi
He's had his moments (both very good and very bad), but for a
young guy I see a ton of potential. This could be one of those
kids who turns out to be REALLY special.
Most improved = The dirt beneath the scoreboard at Lavalle
Great change. Love it.
Least improved = The concession stand at Lavalle
How do you run out of pretzels every week? Gotta step it up for
conference play.
Best moment = The 4th down stop against Colgate to seal the game
The Army win was excellent, but there wasn’t any one moment
throughout the game that was better than that stop during
Homecoming.
Worst moment = The dropped TD against Syracuse
Brought back bad memories of the Sam Houston game (same play,
same result, no TD).
Toughest loss = This guy and his 50+ lbs

HTML http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AhGv0pN2mYw
Dude dropped serious weight, and I commend him for that, but
sadly, his loss is also ours. It’s just not the same.
Best opposing fans = Army
Can’t say enough good things about them.
Worst opposing fans = Former Syracuse coach Dick Macpherson
Some people thought he was just out of touch with reality.
Others thought he was just a jerk. I fail to see why he can't
be both.
Best opposing fans, part 2 = Pace
The Pace fans suffered through awful weather and an even worse
game, and still got loud when Pace put in a score. That’s
dedication right there. In fairness, my general experience with
opposing fans this year has been very positive. 99% were
totally cool, but Pace and Army were just better than the rest.
All in all, a terrific first half of the season, and I can't
wait for the remainder of the year.

Haaaa. Thats Chris Creamer from the Red Zone. That has to be one
the most loyal Stony Brook fans I've hung out with. He is there
just about every game at the podium commanding the red zone. I'm
gonna ask him to the belly wave once again! I'm not quite sure
if he has lost many pounds, that video has to be from atleast
two years ago. ... But in all honesty, If there is one person
that deserves a lot of credit for the growth of the red zone, It
has to be Creamer. His enthusiasm has helped a lot. A lot of the
freshman kids are staying at games and they are buying into what
Stony Brook is trying to achieve but he is making it fun for
them to stay. I have my chairback season ticket but I refuse to
sit there. I seat with these guys at the Zone
and yes, Maysonet is KING! that is all
GO SEAWOLVES!

Well done Jag!!! ;D
I concur with all sentiments. Of course the 4th down stops
against Cuse were huge, but against Colgate at home on
Homecoming was bigger.
And if i could add a category- sophomore MVP- Kevin Hauter on
the d-line.

Least improved = The apparel table at Lavalle
That fact that we still see Tee Shirts on a table is a joke and
would somebody please call Nike, Adidas, Under Armor, etc and
get us an apparal contract. They made the College World
Series, Football is moving to the CAA, it's time to start
playing with the big boys.

Also a midseason analysis here- of where we stand in the polls.
Note- i dont trust polls, i know they are flawed. But here is
the company we are currently in:
College Sports Madness #17
HTML http://www.collegesportsmadness.com/fcs-football/top-25-rankings
Between Central Ark and Citadel
Sports Network #13
HTML http://www.sportsnetwork.com/merge/tsnform.aspx?c=sportsnetwork&page=cfoot2/misc/tsn-div-1aa-poll.htm
Between Towson and New Hampshire
FCS Coaches #13
HTML http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/football/polls?poll=7
Between Towson and App State
FWIW, note that all polls pretty much have the same top 12.
Also note the CAA teams in the top 20!!!

I agree w/joewillie the swag table is a joke, they need to step
it up. You can't mention def mvp without Dudley and Reyes. These
two are tackling machines. Also think Chairman was correct
Hauter is an animal. If you watch him one on one he abuses his
opponents.

Great job Jag ! Walking down from Michie Stadium last week
after the game we mixed in with a group of cadets. What a great
bunch of people. Never bad word lots of respect-one cadet from
Florida who is in his second year complimented us on the win.
I wont call them college kids because they are young men and
women making quite a sacrifice at an early age to protect us
someday. All of them could probably go to any school they
chose but picked West Point. Anyway cant agree more with
Jags picks. Victor Ochi by the way is the pride of Valley
Stream. He is their 1st Div 1 football recruit in almost 20
years. My daughter has friend who was one of Victors teachers.
She and her husband now make our home games and trecked to West
Point last week Talk about a fan base building !
