It just gets better and better for
S/B..........................Kevin Norrell invited to NFLPA
Collegiate Bowl

Stony Brook wide receiver Kevin Norrell, who led the Football
Championship Subdivision in yards per catch (21.0) last season,
has accepted an invitation to play in the NFLPA-sponsored
Collegiate Bowl all-star game Jan. 19 at the Home Depot Center
in Carson, Calif. The game will be televised live on ESPN2, and
ESPNU will provide live practice coverage during the week.
Norrell joins Seawolves running back Miguel Maysonet on the
postseason all-star circuit, which should provide a visibility
boost for coach Chuck Priore’s football program. Maysonet, who
was runnerup for the Walter Payton Award as FCS player of the
year, has been invited to the prestigious East-West Shrine Game
on Jan. 19 in St. Petersburg, Fla., but to play in that game, he
first must obtain a release from the Raycom College Football
All-Star Classic played that same day in Montgomery, Ala.
Stony Brook’s two straight FCS playoff appearances coincided
with Norrell’s emergence as a deep-strike threat. As a senior,
Norrell caught 66 passes for 1,388 yards and 15 touchdowns, and
he set Big South conference records for yards, yards per game
(106.8) and yards per catch. He also set a school record with a
214-yard game against Charleston Southern. Norrell, a Los
Angeles native who transferred from Washington State, earned
All-America honors from The Sports Network, Associated Press and
Phil Steele.

Leo: As a former beat writer for an FCS team, who are some main
prospects from this level of college football? In particular, do
you believe a player like Kevin Fogg from Liberty (Leo’s alma
mater) has a chance to make an NFL roster?
Chris: Fogg is petitioning for a medical hardship year and hopes
to come back next season. But he’s certainly the sort of player
who has carved a niche out for himself not only as a physical
player who can cover at corner, but as a dynamic special teams
player who is great in both the kick and punt return games. As
you saw with Mike Brown last year, players who can do multiple
things well have great value in a game where you have limited
roster space. As far as other FCS players, the highest guy I’m
seeing on draft boards is Tennessee Tech’s Da’Rick Rogers, the
Tennessee transfer wide receiver. I’ve got to think a guy like
Miguel Maysonet from Stony Brook will get a look, though. Tough,
crafty runner with power inside and shiftiness outside.

this website is a good location for FCS news and notes. see
link to preview of top teams for 2013 season. I'm a bit
dismayed that SB is not in their list of top teams for next
season, while several of our new CAA colleagues are listed,
including Villanova as one of the top 5 teams.

reasonable to expect when you lose a class of excellent player.
But I'm not worried about what TSN has to say. I expect the
Seawolves to bounce back and have another playoff year!!

Any word on what game Maysonet is playing in? He is not listed
on the East West Shrine roster:
