HE will be in the CAA now so he has better chances. the CAA has
had numerous players Drafted in prior years so lets see how it
goes

Big South has nothing to do with getting drafted. If you're
good enough, you're good enough. Scouts have inquired about
Bamiro since he was a sophomore.

well.... a lot of folks in the FCS liked downplaying the talent
of an student-athlete based on the conference they played on. At
least we wont have to worry about that any longer. The CAA is
still one of the top conferences in the country and that will
surely help our athletes case.
I honestly think Maysonet should've been drafted... IMO he was
talented enough to be our first draftee...

ecasadoSBU.. I agree. miguel got screwed because of the Big
South. Had we been in the CAA, and had Miguel put up the same
numbers he did in the BS he would have been a late round draft
pick for sure. All the analyst said that....... Without a doubt
the scouts look at what conference a team/player plays in and
that has a HUGE affect on if a NFL team will draft a player or
not.. But the BS is now behind us and the CAA is a conference
that garners respect from recruits, not the BS.. Sorry
captainj21, I disagree with you !!

Coker and Bamiro would get drafted no matter what conf. they
played in. Scouts didn't like Maysonet's size and not being able
to play in the all star gms hurt him. We all know that he should
have been drafted, and we all know that scouts make mistakes.
The end result is that he is were we all thought he should be,
in an NFL camp, signed to a rookie contract. The idea is to make
the team, it should not matter how you get there. I think guys
like Victor Cruz and Wayne Chrebet have proved that. If you can
play you can play and a smart team will find you.

Five-a-Side: Stony Brook's Marcus Coker

Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) - As the Walter Payton Award
candidacy grew for Stony Brook's Miguel Maysonet last year,
Marcus Coker did what he thought he was supposed to do as a
fellow running back.
Coker tried to remain in a secondary role out of respect to
Maysonet.
It wasn't quite what Stony Brook coach Chuck Priore had in mind
for the new transfer from the University of Iowa, so he pulled
Coker aside and challenged him a bit.
"I said, 'Respect yourself,'" Priore told Coker.
It's true Maysonet finished the season as the runner-up for the
FCS' outstanding player award, but the Seawolves needed Coker as
well in their first 10-win season. He rushed for 1,018 yards and
nine touchdowns on 210 carries, going over 100 yards in three of
their final five games.
Maysonet is gone from what was a unique running back rotation,
but Stony Brook's "other" 1,000-yard rusher is back. As the
Seawolves take a jump in conferences from the Big South to CAA
Football, Priore says he expects Coker to carry the ball 25-30
times per game.
The 6-foot-2, 230-pound cruncher should have a huge season, too.
He understands how to extend plays and deflate defenses with his
physical running style, as his 1,384 yards and 15 touchdowns as
a sophomore at Iowa in 2011 would attest.
An NFL prospect for 2014, Coker arrived at Stony Brook following
his dismissal from the Big Ten school in early 2012. He was
investigated for an alleged assault, but not charged. He
believes he's learned from his mistakes and has been more of a
leader for his FCS team.
In Five-a-Side - In the FCS Huddle's monthly feature of "five
questions, five answers" with an influential person in the FCS -
Coker discusses the season ahead for Stony Brook football.
Let's kick off:
TSN: Obviously, you were on a higher level of competition at
Iowa. Now a lot of your teammates are stepping up to a higher
level in the CAA. What does a program have to do at a higher
level?
MC: We're definitely excited. Some new challenges, some great
teams, one of the better conferences in the NCAA.
They just have to raise their intensity. Everybody on our team
has to raise their play level, which our guys are ready to do.
TSN: You had a big season last year with over 1,000 yards
rushing. But this team also relied on Miguel in a big way. What
do you have to do to fill that void?
MC: It's going to be big shoes to fill, but I think we can get
it done. We're going to have to do it.
TSN: How are you and Miguel similar and different with running
style?
MC: We're probably completely different in almost every facet.
He's short ... short ... really short (he smiles). No, he's a
speedy guy with agility, he jumps over people. I'm just lower my
shoulder, (with) jukes every once in a while but very rarely so.
TSN: How about your time at Iowa. When you look back on it, is
there anything you would change, and how has that impacted you
now?
MC: I wouldn't change anything. Everything in my past makes me
who I am today. Looking back, it was a fun experience. The
coaches, they were great to me.
TSN: Will Stony Brook have another Walter Payton Award finalist
this year?
MC: That's the goal. Always.

Coker named to Senior Bowl watch list
Running back enters 2013 as the starter for Seawolves
Stony Brook, N.Y. - Stony Brook senior running back Marcus Coker
(Beltsville, Md.) was named to the Senior Bowl watch list on
Thursday. The list includes the nation's top seniors and NFL
prospects from around the nation.
"Last year, the inaugural Senior Bowl Watch List included 312
prospects with 94 total players ultimately being drafted from
our game," said Senior Bowl Executive Director Phil Savage.
"With 60,000-plus athletes playing college football, and only
250 or so NFL draft choices each year, we believe there is some
legitimate prestige with being placed on our 'official' Watch
List."
Stony Brook's 2012 Offensive Rookie of the Year, Coker rushed
for 1,018 yards and nine touchdowns in his first season at Stony
Brook. Coker totaled three games of 100 or more yards and eight
of his nine touchdowns were within four yards or less.
The University of Iowa transfer has been named a preseason
All-American by multiple publications.
Coker and the Seawolves will get underway in just 13 days when
the season kicks off at Rhode Island on September 7.

I hope Coker has a block buster year. SB Football has this draft
curse thing hanging over it's head. We all thought Miguel would
be the first SB Football player to be drafted, nope. Big Mike
looked like a lock to get drafted, nope. Now, it looks as if
Coker has a shot to go in the late rounds of the 2014 Draft. We
could only hope !!

Big Mike moves up to second string position already. it looks as
if he could actually make the Roster.. Come on Miguel you're
next in line to make the move !!!!!!
