Renovated Basketball Arena

I'm curious how the arena renovation will affect the men's and
women's basketball programs. I suppose it should increase our
recruiting profile. Will the increase in revenue from ticket
sales, hosting concerts, or naming rights be significant towards
our overall athletic budget? Any other benefits?
Also can anyone link pictures of a current D1 arena that is
similar to what we are planning?

I can't imagine that this new arena doesn't make a significant
difference in recruiting, as well as probably hosting the AE
post-season tournament down the road, assuming that you are even
in the AE down the road...My question is still what do you do
over the next 2 seasons if you end up hosting the AE final like
you did last year?
Off topic, I wonder how BU's recent decision to leave the AE
affects your long-term plans? And finally, has their been any
more info given out on the Mitchell kid?

I think if you ask most followers of SBU, the AE, and the CAA,
they'd tell you that an announcement that SBU will be joining
the CAA for the 2013-14 season could be made this summer. Of
course this is speculation, but it makes sense.

From what our AD has publicly stated I think football only
for the CAA is in our future. The remainder of our sports
will continue in the AE. Next step after that I suspect will be
FBS level football probably sooner rather than later. Meaning
I dont think we will wait 15-20 years for the next step up.

I wouldn't rely too much on what ADs say for the press. More
than one university has jumped conferences a few weeks after
having said how happy they are in the conference they just left.
You may be right, or not.

I really don't think we'll go to the CAA. The CAA without VCU
and ODU is a one bid conference like the AE, but with more teams
competing for that bid. I think we go CAA football if offered
but keep our sports in the AE where autobids will be easier to
come by.

I just saw some posts on a local Long Island HS football forum
saying Stony Brook is looking to go Big East in the next in the
next five years. I imagine this might be where the rumor was
started.

I'm seriously skeptical, but his timeline fits together pretty
well - a feasibility study coinciding with Project 50 going
forward, Hotel on campus to host visitors for FBS games (I
definitely don't buy FBS athletics is the main reason for the
hotel, but a hotel might be important if we were hosting 30k+ on
saturdays for football games). If he's a full of ****, he
deserves some credit for being creative.

As a university we have the donations, student body, and
academic relevance to make a future jump to the FBS. What we
need is a bigger stadium, and more fan support. Right now, with
5,500 people coming to our games on average we have a long way
to go. The average Big East attendance right now is 45k. We are
prettty far from that. I would only like the Big East if UConn
and Rutgers are still part of it by then.

Given a choice I would rather see us move into the ACC at some
point in time. I have no idea what the Big East will look like
in say 5-7 years which seems to be the time frame we are talking
about. The ACC is probabaly one of the more stable conferences
right now other than the Big 10 and playing schools like Duke,
Boston College VT etc would draw. Almost every football school
in the Big East is looking for the front door. Read somewhere
Louisville wants to go the SEC, UConn is dying for an ACC
invite, Syracuse and West Virginia are gone . It would be
interesing to see what major companies come forward with
funding. Really interesting times ahead.

Its gonna look gorgeous. Especially with new AE logo in SB
colors on the new court. Can't wait.
quick question: does anyone know the procedure to host AE
tourney?
I know scooby-doos are going to host again this year. Are they
hosting next year too? When is the earliest we can host?
