Hope you make it in the CAA. Would be a great addition, just
don't know if you are being blocked by Hofstra.

I dont think Hofstra cares much about a football only member or
if they have a say in it after what they pulled in 2009. All
sports is something else . Somehow they think if we move into
the CAA it threatens them from a recruiting standpoint and some
media coverage. Yet when we had the Battle of Long Island every
year in mens lax it was a fan favorite. One year the game was
played at SBU and drew almost 7k and it was a Tuesday night !
Fingers crossed we are in . Thanks for the support from JMU by
the way.

I am thinking you are in as football only, especially if the
reports about Albany coming to the CAA are true.

I agree JMUFan. After reading posts from various boards and some
news postings, and in light of the CAA Commissioner visiting SBU
last week, I expect to hear that both SBU and Albany join as
football members. Whether they join in all-sports is a toss-up,
imo.

This is interesting, hope your AD isn't acting irrational.
" Jon Rothstein @JonRothstein 21m Sources say CAA wants Stony
Brook for full membership and Albany just for football but Stony
Brook will decline offer. Very happy in AEC."

That may be a very true statement. Reason being SBU has plans
under way to move to an FBS Conference in say the next 5-6
years. They dont want to pay the 1 million exit fee at that
time to move all sports out of the CAA. The football exit fee
of 250 k they will pay. Also I dont think SBU wants to
undermine the AEC now that Boston Univ left. So an interesting
turn of events . Hopefullly the CAA will still accept us as
football only member and we get the best of both worlds. The
goal all along has been FBS in all sports so I wouldnt be
surprised if at the end of the day we are still in the Big
South/AEC.

97, you say that SBU has plans for FBS in the next five years. I
know we've had this discussion on this board before, but I
assume you're speculating...I have not heard anything about this
except speculation and preferences by some of our esteemed fan
board members. I have mixed feelings about moving to FBS and
have all along, but I'm curious why you sound so certain.

I have to agree w/ry last I heard Fiore say during College
World series was that they are happy w/AE and had no plans on
moving. As far as football I have not heard anything regarding
an FBS move. Again I will say Stony Brook has just recently had
national success and that's because of the conf we play in.
Baylor just got awarded 250 million to buid a new stadium, Stony
Brook is not going to get that kind of money to build a stadium
to hold 30,000. I feel that with the smaller donations and
grants that they are recieving that they are doing a great job
upgrading facilities. It is not a bad thing to be a big fish in
a small pond. Just look at what has happened to Hofstra since
they moved to the CAA, no more football and average other
sports. Sometimes the grass is not greener on the other side.

Agree Chrissy. SBU will NEVER have a football program comparable
to Ohio State, Florida, or even Maryland. Not in our lifetimes.
The age of big sports growth has passed. SBU came late to the
party, so there will always be a glass ceiling at the FBS level.
That said, SB certainly CAN have a consistently Top 15 FCS team
that can regularly compete for a national championship. What's
not to like about that! I'd rather avoid the pitfalls of big
time (FBS) football with the abuses and excessive partying. I
think the SB student experience is best served by having a top
tier FCS program. After all, that's what college should be
about...a balanced (academics, sports, social life) student
experience.
