Per D1 Docket, we'll open our season at Northwestern on November
6. So make that two Big Ten teams we'll go and see.

The fearsome, fire-breathing Red Dragons of SUNY Oneonta will be
coming to Stony Brook in mid November. Brace yourselves.
First post updated.
I'm fine with one or two of these D-IIIs as long as we don't,
you know, lose to them, which we somehow almost did last year!
The home schedule is a little light with New Haven, Lindenwood,
Maine and now Oneonta, but we do have La Salle, which is a coup
for us. Maybe we get a sixth somewhere.

Also, we'll play at Brown on December 22. It could be our last
OOC game before tipping off the conference schedule on New
Year's Eve.
Another nugget: if I have it right, we have one roster spot
available, and with many of the 2022s now available for another
season, I could see us finding one last piece to this puzzle
from that pool. Unless Dagostino is a scholarship player now.
Correct me if I'm wrong.

I read on X that Coach Ford confirmed that the Seawolves do have
an open roster spot, but does not plan on filling it. What
would be the motivation to leave a spot open when there's a
decent chance to improve the roster? Campi, can you provide
insight into the reasoning?

I was surprised by that also, but I'm learning that it's fairly
common among low- to mid-majors. Especially now, I'd imagine it
comes down to it being August 5, people already filing into the
dorms for the academic year, and maybe there just isn't a fit or
talent that would add to what we're doing. I wouldn't want to
add just anybody. I think about Okafor as a late add last year,
he barely saw the floor and is now at a D-II.
In the same vein, if somebody's dropped into the mix and
threatens to take playing time after players have been grinding
all summer together, I can't imagine that helps with chemistry.
Recruiting just has to be such a grind right now, and now with
this 2022 ruling, that mucked things up even more.

The extra spot would be a walk-on at best, since everyone worth
NIL would have to be scooped up by now. I don't think it really
matters.
