Because we won, I'll say that these wins build character. If we
lost, I would have been screaming a lot of censored words.
Neither team could hit anything in OT. God, that was ugly, after
a beautiful first 37 minutes.

Despite epic collapse, somehow we won this game. The FT shooting
has to improve, and Geno has to fix us breaking the press ASAP.
The game turned when Brown took that poor 3 with 20 ticks left
on the shot clock, with an 11/pt lead and 2+ mins left in reg.
IMO, play of the game was when the Columbia coach called a TO as
his player was draining a 3.

That was one wild finish, and if it weren't for Columbia's
shooting woes, we may have coughed it up. It won't go up in the
Louvre, but it will in the win column.
To more than double up Columbia in second-chance points is a
major feat. Albany got outscored in that department, 22-3, and
Columbia had some other lopsided margins this year too. They
ended up +9 on the glass in this one, but we hung in there.
41 and 40 minutes from Pratt and Brown respectively. It wasn't a
pretty 24 from Pratt, but he continues to be this incredible
force for us. And a career-high 35 minutes for Gorman as our
small-ball 5.
Huge night from TO. And while he only had four boards, he had
two enormous defensive rebounds in that overtime, and three big
steals. It's a luxury to have him and Shoshkikj out there
alongside Pratt and Brown to control things.
But about that press break, my gosh. The play call had to be
"give it to somebody deep in the corner and hold it for three
seconds while the double team came." Of course, we've seen the
team wilt like this before – including against Farmingdale! –
but like in that instance, we found a way. A W's a W.

I’ll take the win over a pretty good team. Hopefully O’Connor
comes back sometime this season. It would be a shame for him to
lose a year of eligibility. I wonder if he was rushed into
playing too soon as he seemed to be recovering from an injury.

I'm impressed we gutted it out in OT. Up 16 w/ 3:27 to go, ESPN
had our WP% at 99.8%. Would have been devastating to give that
away. But we came up with some big stops and boards late and
some clutch FT shooting after some shaky stripe work to end
regulation.
It's baffling to me how we can't break the press more
consistently. How many times did we dribble or feed the ball to
a corner or sideline without Columbia forcing us there? The
opposite skip pass was open all night, and we only got it there
once or twice, but that's what pressure does. It speeds you up
and narrows your vision, and things can snowball after a
turnover or two. We need to be better--we haven't been a good
press-breaking team for a while.
Great win! Onto Central Michigan!

In addition to general trouble with the FC press thought too
that SBU got very lucky with several over-the-top passes that
floated around for a long time but didn't get picked off. Credit
the Lions for giving SBU the inbound and positioning exactly
where they wanted to pounce. Yes, "Lions" and "pounce" was
purposeful.
They are down a steady hand with O'Connor out. Additionally, not
being a quick, trapping team themselves I can't imagine they can
do too much to replicate these situations in practice. And, yes,
it does seem that SBU teams often have trouble with FC pressure.
Maybe they need to hire Farmingdale to come over for a few
practices and give them the business.

it doesnt surprise me in the least that in the age of transfer
portals and social media and NIL that teams dont have time to
gel and then cant pass the ball.
with that said- we've been getting better about it over the last
two years.
