Ok so i was reading some of the stuff the radio guys sent
around- they made somewhat of a Year in Review for 2011/2012,
including a list of top events. Ill add to it and change it up,
but here is a summary:
1. Baseball team “Shocks The World” and advances to the College
World Series – 7 players drafted by MLB, plus 2 recruits. Senk
named Coach of the Year by the Writers, four AAs; bball on the
front page of ESPN.com
2. Football team advances through first two rounds of NCAA FCS
playoffs to face #1 Sam Houston State, blows a 10 point lead;
picks up bigtime transfers from Iowa (Coker) and Maryland
(Coxson; Graham); three preseason AAs for 2012
3. Lucy Van Dalen qualifies for Olympics; breaks SB record in
1500m; 6x AA; first ever SB individual national title; named
America East Woman Of The Year
4. LaValle Stadium hosts capacity crowds at 2012 NCAA Women’s
Lacrosse Championship (Northwestern captures national title)
5. Dubin Family Athletic Performance Center opens on campus;
Dubin is a lax/football alumnus, donated $1M in 2008 and another
$4.3M in 2010
6. Dallas Joyner’s thrilling buzzer-beater defeats Albany and
sends Stony Brook to AE finals; team falls in finals after
blowing lead against Vermont; plays in Europe and at Madison
Square Garden
7. Men’s lacrosse wins AE title but falls in NCAA tournament to
Johns Hopkins
8. Stony Brook Arena officially begins $21 million dollar
renovations after hosting nationally televised AE men’s
basketball final versus Vermont
9. Women’s lacrosse team defeats #20 JHU, has a close one with
#4 Duke; falls short of AE title after a remarkable turnaround
season; Petersen gets a tryout with Team USA
10. Conference shuffle... Boston University jumping to Patriot
League; Liberty exiting Big South; SB statement on health of the
AE
11. Jim Fiore named UA Northeast AD of the Year

thanks- i forgot to add this- i read it on SB Radio Sports:
[quote]Stony Brook was the only university in the country that
had its football, men's soccer, men's basketball, men's lacrosse
and baseball teams play in a postseason tournament in 2011-12.

And at the AD's meetings down in Dallas this week we came out
ranked as the 68th Athletic Program in D-1. Highest in the AE
and we beat everyone in the CAA bar none.

Thats right Seawolf97. I posted that in BasketballForum. I'm
tired of the Albany, and BU fans talking crap about SBU and the
commish cup which means very little at the national level. Those
that are saying SBU's investment is not paying off gotta STFU.
The next SUNY school is 79 spots after us, and its Binghamton,
not Albany...

Glad to hear this news. A few years ago when Albany came in the
top 100, I was thinking...is it really that difficult for SBU to
get players to come to Long Island than to a place like Albany?
Things now are as they should be.
