In a day and age where fifth- and sixth-year guys are leading
teams in scoring, it's something to see a freshman out in front
for Brown. Langham was a good get for them, having received
offers from places like Providence, UMass and St. Bonaventure,
among others. He forced his way into the starting lineup after
coming off the bench at the outset, dropping in 20 against BU in
only his third collegiate game. He was more of a big in high
school, so we'll see how he develops as a shooter. So far so
       good in terms of production.
The matchup I'm most looking forward to is Dabo against Goods.
They're about the same size and their games are pretty similar.
Dabo had an absurd ELEVEN blocks against Hampton over the
weekend, but has just five in the other four games they've
played. Elsewhere, Uchidiuno is a smooth lefty shooter, and
Jenkins the steady hand at point guard. Bizarre stat line:
Jenkins is 10 for 22 on threes, 5 for 18 on twos.
Brown is exceedingly young. They rank 354th out of 365 teams in
terms of Division I experience, and their performance has been a
little uneven in the early going as you might expect. Tuesday
was a good sign as they handled business at home against a
pretty hapless Holy Cross team, with David Rochester returning
to action for his season debut. They're piecing it together a
bit, having lost pillars like Kino Lilly Jr. (pro in England)
and Nana Owusu-Anane (grad transfer at Grand Canyon). To make
matters worse, Landon Lewis, their leading returning scorer, is
out until January with an ankle injury.
This has been a nice evenly matched series over the years, with
the home teams winning the last six contests dating back to
2017. The last road victory for anybody was 2016 when Woodhouse
       went for a career-high 27 in a 92-89 win up in Providence.
A number to keep an eye on: we've taken 250 shots and 113 have
been from three. I'd say these numbers are skewed by wide open
looks against two D-III teams, but we'd also be able to pound
those teams inside. As I've said before, what I like about the
roster makeup is that we have numerous willing and able
shooters, not just a couple as we've seen in years past. Think
Kenan Sarvan averaging six three attempts a night. This doesn't
       feel like that.
I was thinking ... in the last 25 years, who could justifiably
fill the space in the following sentence: "we have ________ and
you don't." Warney's the obvious one – what a few years those
were. I thought El-Amin was awesome and he has the hardware to
show for it. I'd say Dougher is shy of that, and Munir was good
enough but the results never showed. Brenton's in the
conversation. TSM too perhaps. Around the league, you think of
guys like Lamb and even Bell-Haynes at UVM, Brzovic at
       Charleston, Wright-Foreman at Hofstra ... and I'm sure I'm
forgetting others but they came to mind. It's really early, and
this was just an exercise, but man, Pratt's really stood out
offensively in the first three games. There is a hint of that
entering this game in my opinion. Brown has some nice bishops
and knights, but do they have a queen? Like I said, Pratt's been
really good, but he also was a 10 or 11 point guy for Milwaukee
before arriving here. We'll see if he can keep it up.
Sometimes I feel like games come down to man strength, and this
feels like one where you can wonder who's going to stand in
front of 23-year-old, filled-out Erik Pratt and keep him from
scoring. Valentiny, another older kid, gets after it. Rob Brown,
veteran of a million games, is another one. With two evenly
matched teams talent-wise, I think it can be the difference.
       4-1. Let's do it.

Lot of good names thrown around here, blasts from the past.
Tommy Brenton was the most underrated Seawolf in my opinion, he
is the ultimate example of why box score stats don't tell the
       full story
The only "Brown" player I care about is Rob Brown III. With
some consistency I am hoping we can recreate the Dave Coley,
Anthony Jackson backcourt from ten (ish) years ago. Of course,
didnt hurt that Warney was there too ..

I don't think Brenton was underrated. We loved that dude back
then. He was the force behind those late 2000s - 2012 teams and
       everyone knew that.
The year after the NIT in which he was out due to injury we took
a lot of losses. Dang, That was a great crop of guys. I miss
       those days

I remember falling in love with Woodhouse's game while he was at
Harborfields, and I was so excited when he came home after his
time at Longwood. Always knew what buttons to push or what gear
to hit, depending on the time and score. Probably trusted the
ball in his hands more than any other PG I've seen at SBU. So
clutch. What a joy he was to watch.

Well, let's look at a few lists here to make a call on who
       qualifies ...
I think when determine who's "him", you start with scoring.
       Fastest to 1,000 points
       70 – DJ Munir
       73 – Jameel Warney
       74 – Akwasi Yeboah
       79 – Bryan Dougher
       81 – Mitchell Beauford
       83 – Elijah Olaniyi
So in a short period of time, these guys filled it up faster
than anybody who's come through the program at the D-I level.
       What about one-game explosiveness?
       30-point games
       6 – DJ Munir
3 – CJ Luster, Jameel Warney
2 – Elijah Olaniyi, Anthony Roberts
Honorable mention to the forefathers: Emeka Smith, 13 30-point
outputs in 93 career games; Keith Martin, 10 and 101.
No one in our Division I history has averaged 20 points a game.
Warney was closest at 19.8 in 2015-16, and then I think it's
Olaniyi at 18.0 in 2019-20 and then Munir with back to back
seasons at 17.2 and 17.4 a night. Plenty of guys in the 16s.
Let's look at body of work for a season.
       Conference Player of the Year
       3x – Jameel Warney
       1x – Tommy Brenton, Muhammad El-Amin
       All-Conference First Team
       3x – Jameel Warney
2x – Tommy Brenton, Carson Puriefoy
1x – Muhammed El-Amin, Bryan Dougher, Elijah Olaniyi, Lucas
       Woodhouse, Akwasi Yeboah
And let's not forget the defensive end.
Conference Defensive Player of the Year
2x – Tommy Brenton, Jameel Warney
1x – Mo Gueye, Jeff Otchere
       All-Conference Defensive
3x – Tommy Brenton, Jameel Warney
2x – Dave Coley, Jeff Otchere
1x – Marques Cox, Mo Gueye, Rayshaun McGrew, Roland Nyama, Ahmad
       Walker
Not that anyone's getting a plaque for this, but it feels like
Warney's a certainty, and then Brenton and Munir (3 AE second
team nods) are in the discussion.

Based off how close we played Yale on Saturday Afternoon. This
becomes a must win for Stony Brook and looking to get momentum
       heading into the SunShine Slam.

furious up and down start, yet it's oddly 2-0 after 3min.
love what im seeing from gorman, despite getting rejected twice.
       pratt looks good too.

pratt is, frankly, out of our league. he does almost
       everything.
we look really good. 8 assists and it's halftime. up 49-32 and
       brown even looks good too.

I’ll tell you: we’re not bad.
I think about times when we were looking around wondering who
was going to score for us. Snoddy, an offensive weapon and not
just an energy guy? O’Connor? He just got here. Or when we
wondered how far Jaden Sayles could carry us. Or TO in the COVID
       year.
Now, it seems like just about everybody we bring in can give us
at least a little something. Kojenets is Petrasy but he’s better
on the glass. I love Valentiny’s versatility. Shoshkikj isn’t
just a ball handler; he can go score on his own. O’Connor
doesn’t even have to shoot it. Remember how we were looking to
him down the stretch in games? Now we have some firepower around
       him.
And the note about Pratt and the real alpha dogs we’ve had feels
even more appropriate after this one. He was terrific.
The offense just looks better too. Less standing around, less
dribbling, better results. I wonder if Hipsher has anything to
do with it. Who would have thought that Farmingdale State would
hold us to our season low at this point?
What a nice stretch we have here in front of us … a solid
Pacific team, either Bethune Cookman or Jacksonville, and then
now 6-0 Loyola Marymount and 4-1 Duquesne in the distance.
Let’s see what we’re made of.
