I need the Statesman to do an internal investigation on this
Geno extension nonsense. It sounds stupid but Heilbron has a
long history of getting swindled, so! I just want Geno gone
after this year. He's gonna be here longer than he was at Kent
State and Bradley combined. Will Stony Brook really be Geno
Ford's definitive coaching tenure? I think when he was hired, we
thought he'd be gone in 5 years either because he would get
poached by a bigger school or because he would underperform and
be let go. But he's still here.
Trivia question - the player with the most single-season 3s for
us. Would you have guessed 2019-20 Makale Foreman? I wouldn't
have! But, he had 104 that year. I knew he was a great shooter
but I don't remember him getting that many. It feels like Luster
is close to the record, but he's at 87 with at least four games
left. He'll need to average a tick over 4 per game to break it,
and winning the first CAA Tournament game would help.
[/quote]
Geno will be back next year because Heilbronn gave him extension
after last season. Going nowhere like the program thanks to
Heilbronn.

I like your write ups but I won't mind if you don't do anymore
this season because the players have given up and it doesn't
matter anymore. thank you for doing these every week. they are
good and fun to read.

Geno for sure will be back and it'll be the same BS from him. I
have no doubt he's a good guy, but I've learned in all facets of
life and business to be very wary of the "good guy" BS artist.
They tend to underdeliver more than any entity I've encountered.
Barring an unforeseeable transfer/recruiting class, next year's
team will be D-II level

on next year. we saw some nyarko today. assuming he comes
back, that's it. that's all you've got in the paint. and he
didnt play much this year.
better hope for some long rebounds that extend out past the key.

I assume there's a reason Nyarko hardly played this year and it
doesn't make me optimistic for next year. But maybe he'll meet
this year's expectations next year ???

Not going to lie, four in eight days is tough, ha ha. I'll play
out the string. Last year, you could at least conceive of good
games from TSM, Noll, AC, Fitz, etc., but this year – as has
been stated before – it's difficult to identify anything we
excel at. And thus it's difficult to drum up any enthusiasm when
it's not even fun to watch, you almost certainly aren't going to
win, and even if you do, it doesn't even matter. And it's even
worse if there's no foreseeable change at the top.
They're pushing this "Red Out" on Thursday, but I suspect the
only thing that's red will be the bleachers. And a student
experience? Who's going to that?
One thing I hadn't thought of until now: With the extra COVID
years, we might have been an attractive place for a high
academic graduate student to go to to get their master's. But
now that they're behind us, how many of those guys are even out
there?
Like I said, I know this is Stony Brook and not St. John's, but
it could be so much better.

The Geno extension is due to one of two things. Either the AD is
too nice of a guy for the job and can’t stand firing anyone, or
simply doesn’t like having to make the effort required for a
prolonged search and hire process. Neither one bodes well for
the athletics program.

Heilbron's contract is up in June, but I'm sure the interim
President will renew him on the way out, since football
undoubtedly will save him. With Geno definitely under contract
for 3 more years, we can look forward to the continuation of the
same. No way that SBU is gonna eat 3 years on Geno's contract.

i dont even care who the coach is, so long as the team shares
the ball. but i suppose that's somewhat up to the coach.

I think we should all write to new president and let her know
that we're not satisfied with Heilbron's performance,
specifically his extensions for head coaches who doesn't deserve
it. She has to know that keeping Heilbron would upset the
fanbase.
I liked McCormick, but then i learned that he was 77 so the
school didn't see him as a long term solution, and McCormick
himself probably just came out of a 12 yr retirement for the
hell of it and didn't want to stick around either.
