[emoji350] Alert: 5pm tipoff. For a national TV game, sure,
let's move it up. I do like the every-week exposure that the CAA
       gets on CBSSN and SNY.
For Monmouth, Bashir has turned into a bit of a volume guy,
shooting it under 36 percent from the field on 20 shots a night
during conference play. Eleven of those are from three. Eleven a
game. He's taken more threes than his teammates have shots. In
the last seven games, that percentage drops to 31 percent (47
for 150). Granted, he is a handful, as we saw when he dropped 31
on us last month. And he's unquestionably the best creator in
the CAA. It's just a lot. He leads the league in scoring, but is
second to last in FG% – ahead of only Glasper, who's out at A&T.
But ... Monmouth is 6-6, which I'm sure they'd have signed up
for after starting the year 0-8 and 1-10, and Bashir is for sure
       the main reason.
Orrrrr ... it's Durr. I never thought he'd be this Robin to
Bashir's Batman, but he's most certainly that, putting up a 40
burger against Drexel, and going for 15 or more in seven of 12
conference games. He FEASTS at the line, going 19 for 19 against
Drexel and 14 for 14 two days later as they beat Delaware. It is
a TOUGH backcourt to defend. No question, Bashir is the more
explosive talent, but Durr's emergence has given them a much
needed Plan B if Bashir is off or especially the focus of an
       opponent's defensive strategy.
It's a nice group. And then you throw in a couple guys with size
       – 7-1 Dok Muordar and the fiery Andrew Ball, who's returned from
injury and has played big crunch time minutes – and you really
       have yourselves a core. But it's sad because I can't imagine a
world where Bashir won't get high major looks – aka a big payday
       – and Durr possibly too. So instead of having this veteran group
who could reign in the CAA over the next couple years, Rice is
likely beating the bushes for talent again.
Deep thoughts: I need to do a Bill Simmonsesque version of Guess
the Lines for the CAA. On point recently. [emoji41]
Continuing on, we really didn't have much of an answer for
Bashir in our first contest. He was on some kind of heater – I
liked his interview afterward where he said that wasn't
surprising to him because he works tirelessly at it. The
announcers said the same. Good old hard work. But as for
Thursday, Monmouth's a different team outside their arena. Home
record: 6-2. Away from home: 2-12. Last year, they won 18 games
... yet were 2-13 on the road! Year before that: 3-15. Add that
up and the Hawks are 7-40 in true road games the last three
       seasons.
We've been talking a lot about Luster and Snoddy, O'Connor to a
slightly lesser degree, but we should really give it up for
Wight, who's held down the fort inside as basically our only
pivot. He isn't a shot blocker or a vicious rebounder, but he's
been steady. In conference play, he's easily our best regular in
plus/minus at -32, and this is for a 2-10 team. Next is O'Connor
at -58, and the rest are right around there (Woodard is -22 in
considerably fewer minutes). I'm glad we got the W&M version of
       Wight. He's just steady.
Our defense in conference play: .466 FG%. That's an improvement!
There's still room to grow here, but the activity is noticeable
for sure. Maybe it's just because there's more Sabry and more
Snoddy (39+ minutes per game in the last five). But the effort
is really appreciated, and for a team that has limited options
offensively, making up for it on the defensive end is a must.
I wasn't sure we'd have too many toss-ups this year, but this
does feel like one of those. Let's find a way to make it two in
       a row.

With 6 games left the only thing left that we could reasonably
root for out side of just general progress is the 10th seed. If
we were to get the 10th seed we would avoid the play in games
       (11 v 14 and 12 vs 13). Right now we're 3 games back of
Northeastern, Drexel and Delaware (tied at 5-7 for the 10th
seed). Drexel and UD have already beat us and have the
tiebreaker. We still play Northeastern on Saturday so maybe that
a narrow pathway to avoid the play-in game. Probably slim
chances but something to root for!

It's wild to look at these next six games and be able to argue
that they're all winnable. Far-fetched to say we'll win them all
or even half, but individually, they're winnable. We've been
playing better and have gotten through the major players in the
south. Meanwhile, you look at a team like Delaware and they've
got Towson, UNCW and Charleston, all away, plus Campbell, Drexel
and Hofstra at home. That is a bear of a finish. Those first
four are 39-9 in conference. If anyone's going to drop, it's
Delaware IMO – and the heck with them, those traitors.
All that said, the hole we've dug is too big and thus playing on
that first day seems highly likely.

10 wins was a stretch in November and we didn't disappoint. the
gym is empty to. Nobody paid anything to sponsor the gym so that
is a $1,000,000 Heilbronn didn't get this year. the value of the
gym has gone down since he was here to zero. stony brook arena
doesn't sound better than commack arena.

The rebounding was horrific. 8-1 o boards for Monmouth I
believe. The defense in general is just bad. 8/12 on 3s! 52%
       overall.
The zone got Monmouth stuck for a while and we had a few chances
to make it a 4-point game after being down by 14. But of course
we did not win the end of the first half and it's an 11 point
       game again.

o'connor shows great poise, nice shooting from luster (we arent
used to that). 14 assists, competed hard, MC just has so much
       offense.

God we needed Luster to score in the final few minutes. I don't
think he did after the 4-pt play.

Luster will get a ton of P5 offers after he showed off his
strength in a nationally televised game.
