Wow, that presumed line surprises me. Hofstra hasn't been good
for two months, and they're telling me we're 7-8 points worse
than Northeastern in this spot? But, I suppose, peak Pride has a
win over Wilmington, at Elon, at Northeastern, at UMass (who
stinks), and even a neutral court win over Sun Belt frontrunner
       Arkansas State.
But we've been playing hard. Without a full roster, we've kept
it within 10 against arguably the three best teams in the
conference (Charleston amazingly is the debatable one at this
point), two of those on the road. So can't we stick around with
4-7 Hofstra here, especially if Plotnikov and/or Graham are
       hobbled or out?
Hofstra's going to ride its two transfer guards – Aranguren and
Davis. Last night it really was just Aranguren, who put up a
career-high 35 against Northeastern, with 25 of those coming in
the second half – 25 of their 29! I like that he's somebody who
doesn't simply settle for perimeter shots and looks for his
offense inside. And he draws contact, averaging five FTA a game.
The same goes for Davis, who can score and distribute. It's
really those two who are driving this thing. They have filled
the boxscores, with nights like 28, 10 and 7 against Delaware
and 13, 7 and 7 against Campbell for Davis. Aranguren's been
steadier with point production, while Davis has been a little up
       and down.
Beyond that though ... they're really searching. Graham's a big
body underneath, putting up some big rebound numbers in
conference play, but he's not this offensive weapon, and on top
of that, he might not even play. He exited late against
Northeastern. Plotnikov is questionable too – he landed on a
guy's ankle just as Hofstra finally drew even with NE. And then
there are these transfers, who have failed to launch for the
most part. Sanders was a four-star who started at Seton Hall but
it just hasn't translated at Hofstra. Gadsden began his career
at George Mason, then started a majority of games over two years
at Canisius, and just hasn't quite provided the lift that fans
       would have hoped for.
So three strong pieces, or maybe just two if Graham doesn't go.
And then a lot of question marks.
But collectively, you can't deny their defensive prowess. 38
percent against is elite. A Plotnikov DNP would be a hit to
       that.
As for us, I would wager that it's been a long time since we've
had a player tracked on the floor like we have Luster. Part of
that's his accuracy from three, and part of it is also the lack
of other options. Teams would be foolish not to pay close
attention to him. Towson certainly did that, with bigger guys
like May helping to limit him to 4 of 15 shooting. Yet we were
right there, with five point lead with nine minutes to go only
to see Towson close on a 22-10 run. It's too bad. King, Woods
and Pratt were able to use height and physicality to do damage
against Hofstra's diminutive backcourt, so I'm hoping that
Luster, who stands eye to eye with these guys, can get his shot
off a little easier, and maybe Snoddy can use his width to beat
them up down low, as he's displayed lately.
Collin O'Connor in his last six games: 8 for 24 from three. He
passed up a couple open looks yesterday, but we need those to go
up. He's our second best threat from deep, assuming Nahar is
       banished to sparse minutes again.
Lastly, I forgot to do this in the Towson thread, but I want to
give a shoutout to WUSB, which did a nice job during the time I
listened while in the car. Best I've heard from them I think.
Play-by-play guy did well describing the action and the color
guy got timely comments in and then got out of the way. Now we
just need local businesses to buy 30-second spots to replace
that brutal music during breaks. :D And maybe with those ads
those guys can cover the expenses for (some) road trips.
We have some hope here this weekend. The guys are playing hard
and, for the most part, are playing well. Let's see if we can
stay hot against our fellow island inhabitants.

Snoddy with 10 and 5 seven minutes into the game! On pace for a

Snoddy has 15/8 at the break. Need another scorer to step up
       beside him and Luster

Awesome effort so far. We’ve been in these situations before and
faltered. We’ve had “moral victories” before. But gotta seal
       this one.

nice win guys. ok so hof is average this year and has some
injuries. we made great shot selections from deep, and it
showed in the results. also lots of assists (14). no wonder we
       won.
PS- we actually looked prepared against the full court presses
at the end. good end of game management, i thought.

About damn time! We were really *13* point underdogs???
An excruciating final minute of game play in that it took 20
minutes of real-life time to get through. I was deathly ill that
the inbound turnover would bite us again.
Huge huge huge game for Snoddy, who has really turned into a
reliable inside scorer lately. 27 points! And to make his first
13 FTs like that as a 60% shooter on the season was nothing
short of clutch. I was worried that it would be a quiet game for
Luster after those 2 early fouls, but he was instrumental in the
comeback. He got left wide open on a few threes when we were
down 8 in the second half.

Woohoo! Feel like we just won the National Championship.
Finally finished a game. Snoody was sensational, and CJ was
super clutch. Speedy with horrendous foul mgmt down the stretch.
How do you not foul Sabry after that rebound?

Between lacrosse and this, wow, that is some day for men’s
       athletics. Finally.
Gotta be thrilled for the guys and the coaching staff. We had
       been knocking on the door.
When Luster got ticketed with his second foul, I sent a doomsday
text to a friend at the game. For Geno to stick with him and for
Luster to give us 36 minutes, just terrific. Some enormous
buckets to stem the tide when it looked inevitable that Hofstra
       would pull away.
Career night for Snoddy. He looked like a man possessed. I
cannot believe the strides he’s made offensively.
And a career night for Sabry. 25 gigantic minutes and I have to
think his biggest make in a Seawolves uniform when he hit the
short jumper to make it 71-67. Can’t remember any bigger. And
great energy and defense per usual. We got some big deflections
       late.
Speedy looked exasperated with the whole thing. First
       Northeastern, then Stony Brook.

It was great to stick it to Hofstra and especially Speedy on
their home floor. Went to this one and was fun to wave the
Hofstra fans goodbye. Who would've thought this out of all the
teams would be the one to beat Hofstra on their home floor.
First since 2007. Snoddy and Luster were incredible. Thought the
6 assists and 0 turnovers were impressive from Collin. On to
       Monmouth.
