Heading into CAA seems we all have the same feeling about this
team. I've gotten similar feedback from various fans around the
arena. Hard to fault the players who clearly go hard, but
they're just a flawed team. Don't we all feel like we know
what's coming? They'll give it their best and probably win 3-4
CAA games. As noted, meh.
I'll go ahead and ask what feels like the
big-elephant-in-the-room question: You've got 6'9" 200lb Nyarko
and he can give you absolutely nothing? Ever? I'm sure there's
something I don't know, be that injury or something else.
My biggest question is Nyarko. This is a guy who was commited to
Arizona state this season. How can’t he give us anything at all?
He didn't do much for USD last year, but given SB's lack of
depth on the inside, it's a fair question.
Gorman and Nahar seem to be the identical player, btw. Very
little inside presence on either side of the court, with
apparently decent range.

The lack of playing time for Nyarko is shocking. I thought he
was a lock for the starting lineup when the season started. The
thought was that he was everything that we were missing-
athleticism (especially in the paint), good pick and roll guy,
highlight reel finishes. Can a reporter please ask Geno why this
guy isn't playing??
I'm sure Geno expected more than him as well-- otherwise he
would have recruited more size for the team. Is he being
disciplined for some reason we don't know about? Something is
not adding up.
But this team is abysmal so far, and the results can't get much
worse up to this point so not sure what's going on?

I don't know what the scenario is with athletics, but these
writers have to pick up the phone and talk to the coach. One
quote from the website is not enough. You think about Mike
Anderson, who's now at Newsday, and how he had opinions, ran
Twitter Spaces (I think), and even broke news like the Geno
extension. He was the best we had. And the kid Ethan from a few
years ago; he was on everything. In the absence of Newsday,
which hasn't published a story on SB since the preseason, the
Statesman has to be the source of down-the-middle information.
Also, if anyone at the paper is reading this, inverted pyramid
style. Theme up front, concise synopsis in the second or third
paragraph, quote, elaborate on it more, then work in some
details. Past is last. Unless something significant happens in
the first half (certainly arguable for the Albany game), you
bury it, so then if you're submitting a story to a newspaper and
they're tight on space (less of an issue with online being the
priority), whatever's at the end gets cut, which is fine. The
lead/lede can't be about the furious comeback and then you
finally reference the mere four-point deficit in the 11th
paragraph.
As for Nyarko, it's disappointing. Definitely a project. He has
looked lost in his limited time, and the coaches know what he
can and can't do, but I find it hard to believe that, with at
least some ability to shoot and block shots, he can't give us a
few minutes here and there.

Yeah The Statesman has been dropping off a bit. They were on top
of stuff for a while, since 2019 or so I got back into reading
their recaps because they were more insightful than Newsday. I
remember when they even got Akwasi Yeboah to criticize Geno's
coaching and culture on Twitter, if that's still up there. Maybe
they're dealing with the same indifference to the team as we
are, but they have access to Geno that we don't.
