But, unfortunately, with all the high-level interest shown in
him, I doubt they have much of a shot.

night Luke Petrasek had for Northport in their league final
last night? Wow!! I must admit that I wasn't very high on him
earlier, mainly because of his lack of sheer bulk to go with his
6'9" frame, but I must say I've become impressed. The kid can
play...and with SBU's terrific and proven weight/strength
training program, I think he could be a monster after a year or
so. Not to mention that he would be a great and rare local
attraction to spur community interest. Do I get any agreement
here? Do you think an offer should be put on the table for that
last scholarship billet?

Never heard of him but as we get better in basketball, we can
offer walk-ons to more skilled players! If not an offer perhaps
he can come in as walk-on?

I saw his write up in the Newsday today . Very impressive game
for him.

Just did a twitter search on Agbeko, looks like he might have
gotten an offer from Duke.
EDIT: Looks like Duke is at least talking to him. I doubted
Stony Brook had a real shot at him anyway, but if he is getting
this kind of interest...

It's hard to figure who that last open scholly position is going
to go to, but it looks like Luke Petrasek may be out of the
running. Based on some twitter traffic, his first two choices
are likely Colgate or Columbia (even though Rivals.com shows his
only current offer is from Binghamton).
Re: Agbeko, it doesn't look like Duke is going to offer. But,
he certainly has plenty of others and is to visit Mo St. soon.
Varner looks like he's headed to JUCO, making it look like SBU's
only current active offer to a candidate of any size is Devonne
Pinkard. He would be a good get, but last I read his top
choices were Drexel, JMU or Delaware. So, where does that leave
the Seawolves?

Looks like Pinkard comitted to Delaware just now, according to
Alex Kline on twitter.
What's the status on John Powell? I think I remember reading
Stony Brook offering him.

You're absolutely correct, Magic! I just now read that
Pinkard's choice is Delaware. The good choices for SBU are
diminishing fast. John Powell would be a very good one, but
although I've seen reports of SBU interest, I never read
anything that showed they offered. Do you have a reference for
that?

Heard that Powell has interest from Stony Brook, Binghamton, New
Hampshire and UMass Lowell, but no DI offers. All he has right
now is a couple of D2 offers.
From what I saw of his highlight reel, a little surprised he
doesn't have a D1 offer yet. 6-7 guys with his athleticism
aren't exactly common.

Assuming Mitchell remains without a scholarship, they only have
one left to give, correct?

No, I don't think so. If Mitchell gets his, which I'm sure he
will--then The team has one more to offer. The four schollys
graduating are Brenton, Rouse, Bracey and Hayes. The three that
are on board to get one for the upcoming year are Mitchell,
Braley and Nyama, with one more to give. At least that's the
way I see it.

I would take a chance on Powell. Remember baseball and Travis
Jankowski. No D1 offers in high school but went 22nd in the
draft. Might be gem in the making.
