GMU was picked to finish sixth out of 15 teams in a very
competitive A-10, which feels like it's at the top of the
leagues who scratch and claw for a second tournament bid, but it
seems like they, like us in the CAA but to a lesser extent, need
everything to fall into place. This feels like an NIT team, but
that still means we're going up against a more than formidable
opponent.
Haynes hasn't gotten off to this tremendous start, but he very
much seems like the nucleus to their offense. An absolute load
inside, some good interior moves, good nose for the ball, a
modicum of finesse to go with his brawn. Maybe a little He
redshirted last year after averaging 15 points and six boards at
ETSU. I wanted him when he entered the portal. I said he gave me
"Warney vibes" and I don't regret it. Good player. And Emejuru,
who averaged 11 and 6 at Siena last year, might be even bigger.
They're a very tough tandem that we'll have to deal with.
They pounded it inside against NC Central and handled them with
ease, but Marquette exposed what I think is a weakness of
theirs, and that's at point guard. Maddox and O'Connor seem to
be doing those duties, along with Auburn transfer KD Johnson,
but I wonder if any of them are meant to play the 1. They all
seem like Noll types can do it, but you'd rather it be Clarke.
Johnson a veteran of more than 100 games at Auburn before
transferring in seems like the answer. That's certainly who
the GMU people were clamoring for when going up against
Marquette, who swallowed up O'Connor. But if he did get the
majority of minutes at the point, it would be a first. He was
brought in as a PG at Auburn but never really was that. Even
still, against the Marquette pressure, they did hold a lead at
halftime lead before breaking down.
I think the whole year I'm going to worry about what size will
do against us, crossing my fingers that Wight can stay on the
floor. Tomorrow will be no different. George Mason's going get
after it defensively too, holding teams to baaarely 40 percent
shooting from the field last year en route to a 20-win season.
It's more pressure on O'Connor, who doesn't seem bothered by the
responsibility he's been given. It's been something to see.
In reality, I think we can all agree that this would be a
heaping spoonful of gravy after Thursday's win. A 14-point
margin, as predicted by KenPom, seems like a few too many, but
maybe we punched above our weight and it would be a lot to ask
us to do it again. I like the grit though. We made big plays in
key moments to climb back into it, and got a massive play from
the freshman to punctuate an enormous road victory. Here's
hoping we stick around in this one and are there in the end
again.

They look like we did last year; a very senior-laden team. On
paper, they beat us soundly, but we have performed well against
GM in the past. I think itll be a 10-pt game.

Line is 16 in some places. Maybe I'm a sucker but that seems
high. Then again, KenPom has us as the second luckiest team in
America right now lol.

hard to follow given the announcer is calling a game between the
patriots and seahawks

full court press, sometimes 3/4, a lot of hands on o'connor,
they're forcing him into trouble. he's impressive though.
some ill advised threes (can you argue with 1/9?).
we're a little small out there- even the announcer said we only
have one forward and woodward is five inches shorter than
emejuru. and its not just dunks- he ran a perfect pick & roll
at the top of the key. switched to zone but they're hitting
many threes anyway. i think we need another wight.
the good- steals, clearing under pressure.

Some hot shooting for George Mason, and we're aimless on
offense. Nothing in rhythm and too many shots from non-shooters.
This team really suffers without O'Connor out there. It's crazy
to think that Snoddy's basically the replacement for both Wight
and O'Connor.
We really need more from Octave. I thought we'd see him getting
downhill more.
I can't believe how much of a non-factor Nyarko appears to be.
Fooled me.

Why do we look like a HS team next to these guys? Our team is
tiny as hell.

The shot taking is not great, no space at all to shoot and so
much out of motion midrange.

Ball movement poor, shot selection too forced. On the length
front, its men vs boys out there.

First five possessions:
SB dump it into Wight, left alone against bigger opponent,
tangled up, miss
GM dribble handoff, made three
SB Octave catches it up top, fakes a shot, dribbles left,
stepback three instead, miss
GM foul on a three-pointer
SB Wight in traffic, missed travel call, got bailed out
