It was the first game of the season and a new coach and nobody
posting on this board other than a couple of guys. No body is
excited about the footall program. they should drop football or
drop down to division 3 because no one really cares about it.
How many people on here will travel to SB football games this
year? Save money and move on because the glory days are over.
there isnt another Hofstra about to drop football and hand you
better players and in this new world SB will never win the
conference as the good kids will be going to other schools as
freshman or leave here if they have a good year. That is the
reality and everyone is fooling themselves. Thats what I think.

You cannot be D3 in one program. It's against NCAA rules. Some
D3 programs used to be allowed to be D1 in 1 sport (for example
Emory Tennis, Johns Hopkins Lacrosse, RPI Hockey), but that
loophole was closed and those programs grandfathered in. So you
either drop football or keep it D1. The best you can do if you
devalue football is to put it FCS, a la Villanova. For us to go
a step down would be to put the team in the Pioneer League or
NEC. I don't see a benefit in that if the CAA is designed to be
a step up league for us. I will remain clear - I don't see why
we entered the CAA if our ultimate goal wasn't the MAC/FBS. It
makes no sense otherwise.
I didn't say anything because there wasn't much to say. This is
a threadbare team that was driven into the ground over half a
decade by a coach who kind of gave up towards the end.
I don't blame anyone for how this year's team performs. I just
want to see some passion from the coach. I see a bit of that in
Cosh so far.
I don't have a problem with them putting their lot in with the
Freshman. Let the guy develop for a year or two along with the
core of a team that will hopefully take some strides year to
year.
I love my alma mater. I will love all who play and represent it.
We all know that it will take a few years to rebuild this
program, and that SBU's commitment to its football program has
nothing to do with that.
I give Cosh 2 more years after this one to show me a winning
season. In the age of the transfer portal, I suspect that he
will need that long.

Dropping down to D3 might not be a bad idea. The only sport team
this school has that is good is the women’s Lax. It would suck
for Spellina and the rest of the girls team, but in the end, Joe
would get a power 4 HC job somewhere and make more money. As far
as the other D1 sports SBU has, they wouldn’t be missed.

There is no reason to debate this after a very predictable
lopsided defeat against an FBS team.
We routinely packed out Lavalle stadium 10,000+ when I was there
2006-2010
Yes, the attendance now at the games is a complete embarrassment
and I'm not sure what happened to the campus culture over there
since I graduated. But this can be rectified.
Cosh needs at least 2 years before any judgment is made. I am
surprised by the freshman starting but he is a 4 star recruit
and definitely has some potential. I just hope he doesn't jump
ship and transfer in the middle of his development. If he is
committed here for 4 years, its a smart move.

Marshall is a 3!star recruit, but none the less. Any star player
going to SBU is a surprise. I just don’t see Marshall sticking
around here past this season. If this team goes winless this
year, I could see him being a flight risk

We're the flagship university of NY State. It's embarrassing
we're FCS let alone division 3.
We lost a game we should lose. Who cares. Lets beat Stonehill
this week and take it from there

Wonder why Casey Case didn't play. He was OK last year and is
still with the team.

He is the third-string Qb and someone who, in my opinion, would
flourish in a wide-open, no-huddle, 4 or 5 wide attack.

Don’t tell me you are already throwing in the towel after one
game
By the way I listened to the whole conference and Cosh was asked
again about Johnson and he said it was an on campus incident
[/quote]
An on-campus incident for Anthony Johnson was not what I had
expected. Not sure what could have happened that was so bad he
needed to unenroll from the school, but no point speculating at
this point. At least it wasn't something related to Cosh's
coaching.

This forum is toxic as hell- this place isn't a good judge of
overall sentiment. Yes there are diehards here but I'm pretty
sure the hardcore fans aren't super engaged here
Marshall is a solid team, no shame in losing to them in the
first game of a rebuild. Onto Stonehill
