NCAA Bracketology: Princeton Joins the Seeded Teams

Outside looking in includes a perennial tournament team
Drexel, a bubble team last week, is in the field as the top CAA
team. Both the Dragons and Stony Brook are 4-0 in league play,
but Drexel gets the nod due to superior RPI (22nd vs. 24th).
Without the AQ, Stony Brook isn’t in the field.
The Seawolves don’t have a win against any teams in the top 30
in the RPI and have a loss to a sub-30 team in Rutgers and
another against fellow bubble dweller Colorado.

       19. Stony Brook (9 - 3)
Off to a 4-0 start in the CAA, the Seawolves are on track to
repeat as conference champions. No CAA team has yet to score
more than eight goals, while the offense sores with an average
of 17.3 goals per game. They’ll face challengers, but as of now
they are still the top dog.

       a barnburner. halftime, 12-9 PU.
our offense looks great though, moving the ball and shoot well,
great feeding. this is a good team we are playing.

Impossible to win or even compete giving up 19 goals. This was
not a “top ten” defensive performance. It’s been a humbling
season for Spallina and crew. They better not slip up in
conference play. Drexel will be no cake walk and chances are we
will have to beat them twice. It’s a conference tourney title
or this team doesn’t make the NCAA tourney.

This past weekend’s slate of results was significant in shaping
the RPI. And it’s a big week coming, too, with this Thursday and
Friday going a long way to solidifying the Big Ten and ACC
tournaments. And a game like Stony Brook vs. Drexel on Friday
will tell us a lot about the CAA.

Thorough article but I don’t believe for a second the criteria
they lay out is followed. If it was, Maryland is not a 4 seed
last year. Further, no head coach who has an auto or at large
chance in that year’s ncaa tourney should be allowed on the
selection committee and deciding seeding. Period. That is such
a gross conflict of interest and patently absurd. There is NO
reason not to have a rotating group of neutral administrators
and/or non-participant current coaches each year rotating on the
committee if all they are doing is “following the criteria”.
Yes, I am singling out Maryland head coach Cathy Reese here.
