Reports on Wight from Toledo fans on their board:
"Bottom-line: Ben avg'd. 9 ppg at W & M but 1 ppg at UT. Our HC
Tod Kowalczyk started him 1st 5 games of season hoping he'd rise
to occasion but during mid season stretch hardly got off bench.
Then late in season and home stretch he played more minutes but
still didn't score. He cannot finish put-backs. MAC is
possibly/likely a level up from Coastal A A and he just could
not score here. His jump shot or shot facing rim is
non-existent. He plays very hard and will compete for all
balls/rebounds and has good drive and seems to have positive
attitude and is well liked but cannot put ball in the hole.
Tough to give minutes to a guy that has that issue. UT put a lot
of faith that he would plug a hole up front for us in '24 but it
didn't work. Last preseason HC Kowalczyk openly spoke about
getting more out of him offensively than what he produced at W &
M. TC seemed confident this would happen or maybe it was more
hope than reason. His game film from W & M shows him making some
short jumpers or banked inside 5 to 8 footers. That didn't
happen once that I can remember at UT last season. I have hit
him pretty hard on his offensive skills but that's what did him
in at UT. A minus on-court point differential. I hope he plays
very well for you guys. I will follow him at S - B. You guys
have a great school. Good luck to you and thanks for posting on
our site!"
"was expected to start for a top 100 program at UT but ended up
being a bust. some guys lose confidence. UT played a really
tough non-conf when Wight was starting and he didn't rise to the
occasion and seemed to lose some faith in his game-the staff
did. might be fine for SB with a fresh start and slightly lower
level of comp."

Seems like some players coming in who can contribute, which is
good to see. Obviously a lot of experience and points left the
team.
The player I still don't see on the work-in-progress roster: Who
will successfully bring up the ball against a physical FC press?
It was a comfort to have AC handle that chore last season.

I can only imagine that that's on Geno's shopping list.
He has rummaged through the NEC before – Snoddy, Clarke,
Jenkins, Habwe. Although I know there's a division, I lop the
MAAC in with them too, which would include Tykei, Maidoh and
maybe others. There are a few decent PG options from the NEC
that I have no idea if they are considering but seem like they
could be a fit – Felder from Stonehill, Acker from LIU, Lopez
from St. Francis. We've also tapped into Monroe, and Albert
Vargas averaged six assists a night. Savion Lewis is a Hills
East kid who averaged seven dimes a game for Quinnipiac, but it
looks like he'll be back. Jasper Floyd from Fairfield maybe?
Might be out of our reach.
Pure guesswork.
@NewYorkHoopsIns has reported that Joe Octave from Holy Cross,
as well as CJ Luster, a juco kid, are in town this weekend to
have a look. I have to think they have other suitors too. Both
seem to me to be more scoring guards than true points. But we
definitely need guys who can fill it up too.

I'm hoping it's more of a system mismatch than anything. That
and Toledo is a very good mid-major and it's hard to get minutes
on very good teams.
I was very unimpressed when we signed Maidoh, but Ford knew what
he was doing. Between Wight's production at WM and Ford's track
record, I'm optimisitic.

Hold on to your hats, guys!! Looks like Geno has just landed a
commitment from JUCO guard CJ Luster!! Coupled with Woodard and
other recent signees, this looks like a helluva recruiting
class!

Got our Roberts. We needed it. Luster and Woodard look like
legit scorers on their highlight tapes.
From here, I'm thinking veteran point guard and two guys with
size.
What's nice about the position we're in is that I feel like we
trimmed the fat and are at a solid 10 guys right now.

Wow Joe Octave (Holy Cross) commits to SBU. Here’s highlights
from his 33-11 game against Georgetown this year.

I don't have any more worries about SBU scoring points next
season. Also think they'll be okay now bringing the ball up
against a press.
Fitz, any chance you want to join this party?
