I don't know much about Geno Ford other than I always read of
him getting a lot of flak on here :D
But, his post game interview sounded like he's a coach who knows
his stuff, has a plan, etc. I guess that just means he says the
right things publicly...who knows...

Geno definitely gets his share of criticism on this board, but I
would argue that there are very few men's BB head coaches that
operate with less scrutiny than him.
While I am absolutely fine with Geno holding on to the gig, I
watched almost every game he's coached the past three years, and
his offense comprises mostly of DIY offense. You rarely see an
SB set with ball movement leading to on open guy cutting to the
basket for an easy layup, and so many of SB's makes feel like
low-percentage shot.
Also, this year's team was likely as good as we'll ever see and
the best Geno could do was a 7 seed. While the team came
together at the right time, who knows if one extra bye would
have made the difference.
Having said that (Curb Your Enthusiasm reference), I think he
did an overall good job last year, and I think he is capable of
taking SB into the top-four of the CAA and it wouldn't surprise
me at all if he takes SB to the tournament at least once if he
stays for the next 4-6 years.

Geno earned a fan in me after this season. SBU athletics got a
bunch of (fair) criticism the last few years but I feel we are
turning the corner with both our basketball and football
programs. That being said this next season could be ugly given
that we will essentially need to rebuild a backcourt next year.
I'm still a fan of Policelli and am pulling for Charleston in
the tourney but he won't be remembered at SBU anywhere close to
how TSM will be remembered. I'm proud of TSM for sticking it
out- watching him grow into an elite baller over his time at
Stony Brook has been a pleasure. For me, TSM will be remembered
along with Tre Puriefoy, Brian Dougher, Mitchell Beauford and
others who were memorable backcourt players on this squad in the
time I've been following the team.
Let's hope football can have similar success this year!

How can you explain the last possession in regulation, coming
out of a timeout? He's not a situational coach and they didnt
draw up a play to run. Fitz likely wont be back next year.

As we've all discussed, that last possession was definitely
brutal. Since you've been pretty accurate with prior
predictions, does the Fitz prediction have any merit to it or
are you just venting at this point?

I am hearing there is some merit and he has value in the nil
market that sb wont be able to counter. they arent raising any
where near what they need to raise with the sb nil.

My sense is Fitz likes it here, but also recognizes that we're
likely going to take a step back with the nucleus leaving. For
him, there will undoubtedly be an opportunity to get minutes
with a power conference team and put some money in his pocket.
In that regard, we're playing JV basketball right now.
