I want to call out how difficult this road has been
252 Northeastern
125 Drexel
115 Hofstra
and now
99 Charleston
This is so much more difficult than AE tournament ever was. Also
if you add in the 23 pt win against 170 Delaware, this really
has been an impressive run. Team getting hot at the right time.
(all ranking via kenpom)

What's the deal on our KenPom ranking.....we were 177 BEFORE THE
DREXEL game, and now after 2 wins against higher ranking teams,
we're only 173???

After we win tonight, does anyone think that Geno will get
courted by other schools? Wouldn't that be the ultimate irony?

Anxiously waiting for 7PM.

A few other thoughts …
Why do we have to play all these games in a row? The whole year,
we do two games a week. The NCAA tournament is two days a week.
Yet we have teams trying to win three, four or five games in as
many days to punch their ticket? I can’t help but think that an
off day before the final would mean a better display of
basketball for both sides.
I’m still in favor of these games being played at home arenas.
The AE had it right. Regular season champs should be rewarded
with an easier path, not in number of games but comfort.
Nevertheless, Charleston’s going to have a full tank of gas –
one fewer game, one of which was easy. And they will use their
bench. So the tired legs theory will be tested again.
Minutes the last three days:
TSM 157
Smith 86
We allow the 16th highest % of points from three in America.
Charleston is 15th in % of points scored from three. They shoot
a lot of them and can really move the ball. It’s those kickouts
off offensive rebounds that are daggers. This is where TSM,
Snoddy and Philip are so key.

I imagine the schedule is dictated by television. CAA is low
priority so we're given a 7pm title game on a Tuesday. We want
the national exposure so we accept it. But yeah it's ridiculous.
I also wonder if back to back games might be a positive for this
team in terms of preparation. So much of the offense this year
has been "TSM(or Clarke or Noll), go make a play". We don't need
days of prep for that.

Maybe because all teams are gathered in one spot and there is
some tradition and spirit in that (and despite the sparse
crowds), I kind of like the tournament taking place at a single
site. I'm shooting myself in the foot, though, because now I
can't go to the games (maybe some day in retirement, if that
ever comes). Unless, I suppose, that neutral site cycles around
the conference region over the years?
I asked one of the SBU coaches about this not long ago, and if
he was being straight with me he said the staff likes the
tournament at a neutral site precisely for the reason that
probably helped SBU this year--it levels the playing field a
bit.
The back-to-back-to-back... games every day really do seem
awful. I would agree that, yes, at least one day before the
championship would help. Would I be right in assuming this
probably comes down to money? Assuming the conference leases the
arena for the tournament, they get a best rate booking 5 days in
a row? I wouldn't know the first thing about this, but generally
assume such things come down to money.
Aside: seems our early-season opponent (and first disappointing
loss of the season?) Wagner has gone on a similar surprising run
to play in the NE conference championship tonight, also at 7pm.

The back-to-back-to-back-to-back schedule (in our case) is a bit
ridiculous, IMO. CoC is playing their 3rd game in-a-row, so do
they really have an advantage with 1 less game played than us?
I don't think so. I think that advantage may only be in the
Quarters, when a double-bye team is at its freshest. By the time
you reach the finals, it is gone.
Only way to reward top seeds is with a home game, IMO. But, I
agree, it's all probably about money, TV scheduling, minimizing
travel, announcers being at the same venue, etc. Major minus is
not being able to have a majority of your fans at the games.

Charleston is beatable. I like our chances to go dancing.
But even if we don't win, have we done enough to earn at least
NIT or CBI bid?
