At first, I thought, we may be able to enjoy this a bit.
       Seniors/grad students, soak it in; Geno, extend the rotation;
and everybody be festive. But the reality is that a win would
guarantee us a winning record regardless of the tournament
results, and it would guarantee a spot in the top seven, thus
avoiding the odds-on favorite Charleston in the quarterfinal
round if we're so fortunate. A Hofstra/Stony Brook conference
tournament game would have some extra energy behind it ... if it
       wasn't playing in DC (sigh).
Delaware, I believe, can't climb higher than 6 or fall below 7.
So we have a little more on the line.
Even though Davis is listed as a senior, the belief is that he
has two more years left in him, as he redshirted the 2020-21
season at Providence. But I guess everybody gets that year back,
even if you weren't even playing? He may not stay of course; his
former running mate, Nelson, has had a nice season at TCU.
Anyway, we saw what Davis can do in that second half against us,
which is to say a little bit of everything offensively. He had
22 of his 29 after break last time. It was right after we let an
opportunity slip against Charleston and Towson, and before we
wilted against Hofstra at our place. Brutal.
Let's look at some home/road splits:
       TSM:
       Home: 17.2 ppg, .516 FG%, .500 3-pt FG%
       Away: 14.7 ppg, .372 FG%, .320 3-pt FG%
       Noll:
       Home: 8.7 ppg, .381 FG%, .309 3-pt FG%
       Away: 11.7 ppg, .430 FG%, .421 3-pt FG%
       Clarke:
       Home: 14.2 ppg, .412 FG%, .293 3-pt FG%
       Away: 12.4 ppg, .391 FG%, .356 3-pt FG%
       Frey:
       Home: 8.1 ppg, .443 FG%, .469 3-pt FG%
       Away: 4.7 ppg, .333 FG%, .245 3-pt FG%
       Fitzmorris:
       Home: 12.5 ppg, .541 FG%
       Away: 9.7 ppg, .491 FG%
       Maidoh:
       Home: 7.7 ppg, .594 FG%
       Away: 6.4 ppg, .512 FG%
       Snoddy:
       Home: 5.6 ppg, .478 FG%
       Away: 5.0 ppg, .366 FG%
I wanted to see what TSM's numbers specifically and then just
did everybody. Not surprisingly, most players are better/much
       better at home.
With the relatively low stakes in the game for Delaware, I could
see Inglesby resting some guys. Davis just played 37 minutes
yesterday, not to mention 34 on Monday against Drexel.
Drumgoole, Ray, Lane, they've been grinding too. So I could see
it. And for that matter, it wouldn't totally stun me if we saw
an uptick in minutes for TO, Philip, Frederick, etc. TSM ranks
third in the CAA in minutes during conference play, and Clarke
is 11th. And beyond this game, could Rice rest Rice in their
finale? In his 37-point game against Campbell, which included
that buzzer beater, he went 13 for 23 from the floor, 8 for 12
from three. In the four games since? 13 for 61, 8 for 34 from
       three.
BUT ... Saturday's also a long way away, so maybe everybody
       plays it straight up.
I'm hoping we see a nice crowd for the 4pm tip on Saturday. The
weather's supposed to stink, so maybe people will look for some
indoor entertainment. Or they won't want to trudge through the
rain to the arena. I dunno; could go either way. It's a big
night for TSM as he'll get the all-time games mark, and he can
tack on a few more in DC. TSM won't have a statue out in front
of Island Federal, but he's been terrific and that record could
stand for a long time. Besides him, Fitz is the active leader at
63, with TO behind him at 54. And with all this transfer
activity, who knows how often we'll even have SBU lifers?
No matter how this thing ends up, it's been a fun season to see
unfold. I can feel these rivalries budding. And it feels like
some of these games being on CBS Sports Network and SNY – not
ESPN+ – and being talked about on halftime shows matters. Maybe
a little? I've had friends from afar (albeit not that many) say
that they had the Stony Brook game on. I don't know whether we
go up or down from here or hold our ground, but it's been a good
year, big picture, from my angle.

       Hey Checkmate, I know you’re a UMass alum. You’ve done a great
job with these previews for many years now. Just wondering what
prompted you to be such an ardent SBU fan? Are you just a local
fan, did you marry an alum, your kids go here or what?

Local resident, big hoops fan obviously, tied to the university
in a few ways otherwise. I wrote for newspapers and magazines
and stuff for years but now this is my beat ha ha.

Great stuff as usual check. Hope TSM gets a standing O and the
place is packed loved watching him grow as a player one of the
better ones to suit up for us great kid. This to me is a defacto
playoff game win this we set ourselves up for a darkhorse run in
the tourney. Its one i feel confident we get at home. Lets go!

Thanks for another great season of writeups, Checkmate!
It helps that the other games that determine our seeding are
before us. Monmouth @ Elon is at 1 pm and Towson @ UNCW is at 2
pm. Rooting for Elon obviously, and then we need UNCW to beat
Towson so that they have the better record which would make our
       win weigh more.

Jumping way ahead here, but I'm hoping for:
       - We win versus Delaware;
       - Monmouth loses to Elon on the road;
       - Towson loses to UNCW on the road;
       - Charleston defeats Hofstra @ Charleston;
Only a 6.25% chance of all of the above happening, given even
odds on all games, but that would give us the #6. We'd probably
play the winner of Elon/Hampton in that scenario, and that would
set us up for Hofstra, and you know we'd be super pumped for a
       re-match with them.
Let's see how this all play out today. All 3 of the other games
should be completed by game time for us, so we should know if
we're playing for the 6 or 7, by game time.

Seriously look forward to your previews every time, Checkmate!
Will be going to the game today to send off our Seniors. As some
have mentioned before it feels like today’s game is the
difference between a nice step forward for the program and a let
down of a season. A little bit hyperbolic maybe but it really
feels that way. Encouraging to see the home/away splits. Not
surprising but we definitely play more confidently at home.

We’re playing for the 7. Elon folds like a pup tent on huge
       Monmouth 2nd half.
