Frey and TO combined for 0-11 from 3. Next season will be a LONG
       one.

Sadly, with a team of 5th and 6th year seniors, this year will
be remembered as the high point of Geno's tenure. Is there any
doubt that Geno will consistently play the rebuild card next
year, conveniently neglecting to mention that the best he could
do with a relatively talented line-up is .500 in the CAA?
       [/quote]
Getting the talent has never been the issue for Geno. Maximizing
the on-court production is. With everyone knowing next year is
his official fight-for-his-job season, I'm sure he can use the
transfer portal to land guys as good as Fitz, Clarke, Noll,
Gueye, Jenkins, Roberts, Greene, etc. But under his leadership,
the results will be the same.

I had to miss this one – a second straight Saturday debacle. The
Campbell halftime push notification was stunning. I'm not sure –
this one may have been even more so.
To get mauled by Monmouth with just three points from Rice is
incredible. Watch Konstantynovskyi crash back to earth next
       week. Unreal.
Frey's down to 24 percent from three in conference play.
It's amazing to think of where we were at the beginning of the
season. We played St. John's, and even though the final score
was lopsided, I think most of us were optimistic that we'd
finish better than our preseason rank of ninth, and maybe even
challenge for the top four. But it's performances like these
that make it clear that we're a pretender in the big picture.
I dunno. I hate to be somebody who shuttles between "we're
good!" and "we stink!" based on a single performance. But
consistency and the ability to string together winning
       performances matters.
Just looking at the schedule the next two weeks, we're almost
certainly headed for the noon 8/9 game in the CAAs, pitting us
against probably Campbell or possibly Northeastern.

Even assuming Snoddy returns (eligibility? transfer?) I'm not
sure how much production we could expect from the returning
class. Based on that, it's hard to see how Geno is going to
replace the loss of TSM, two solid PG's, and two 7-footers.
Even if Geno somehow manages to pull it off, it's hard to
imagine him exceeding this year's results. so basically aside
from a miracle we're looking at two very mediocre years from
       SB's MBB. :-\

So the decimated team from last year secured a 10th seed, and
this year with a loaded class of grads and TSM the best we can
       do is 8th?

Just watched the replay, and all I can say is Wow! Total
defensive and rebounding breakdown. No energy, players just
standing around. Yeah, we played on Thursday and had to travel,
but Monmouth played on Thursday too. This game seemed like a
carbon copy of Campbell game. I have totally lost any sort of
faith in Frey; he’s slow, poor defender, and if he can’t hit his
shots (some of which are ridiculous in range), not sure why he’s
out there. Additionally, Geno has to do a better job in the
motivation and coaching departments. As an aside, the worst
broadcast of a game that I’ve ever heard. I literally turned the
sound off for the entire 2nd half. Didn’t realize that Monmouth
was such a national powerhouse for the last 25 years.

Man, if we won the Campbell game and this one, the way the rest
of the CAA shook out so far, we'd be tied for 4th. Ughhhhhhh.

I really like SB's commentators for TV, but it's laughable when
they say something to the effect, "this team could be 10-2" ???
       ??? ???

This was the year to compete the CAA is wide open we have the
oldest team in the league yet we can’t breakthrough we get
embarrassed by other mid tier teams. Geno getting an extension
says everything you need to know about what SBU thinks about
basketball it simply doesn’t care. We were decimated by injury
and got a 10 seed this year healthy we’ll scrape towards an 8
unacceptable i’ve been less active this year for various reasons
one of them being nobody at Stony Brook cares heck even Geno
doesn’t seem to care about barely being over .500. Its pathetic.
Geno can get talent but never maximizes it. We can compete in
this league unfortunately the admin is completely apathetic
towards results its disgusting. Losing close games is one thing
getting blown out by nearly 30 against equal opponents is
another im close to being done until a new coach is brought in i
bet we bottom out next year and hear excuse after excuse im sick
of it I donate to this program but no more changes are needed.
Top down or else the program will die.

Good post.. This is one of the reasons why I rarely ever post on
this forum anymore. [EDITED BY MODERATORS] I agree. This school
could care less about sports. Just keep things quiet and don’t
make the university look bad is their only concern.
Why should we support this university with money, tickets,
merchandise when they clearly don’t care. We are beating a dead
       horse.
SH giving both horrible coaches a contract extension is all you
need to know the direction of this athletic department. They
just don’t care, and SH is just following orders from the
       President.
“Keep quiet and don’t make us look bad”. This is the new theme
       at SBU athletics

Its sad but now you are all getting it that no one seems to care
at SB. heilbron took over a very good dept and killed the
football & basketball programs. He hid the early preseason
contract extension of Priore and looks like he gave Geno an
extension before the season started or early on no matter when
it was finally signed by everyone. The president doesnt seem to
care and it looks like her office purposely never puts social
       media out about sports.
If you have the opinion that no one cares it is tough to argue.
there arent a lot of people on these forums. If you want to see
change at this point you should take an hour this week and write
a letter to the governor and your state representatives asking
for accountability and commitment to SB athletics with new
blood. Geno has two years left and he hasnnt shown in his career
that he can do better next year. I dont think hes a good coach
       at all.
Write your state legislators. Get them involved.
