I still can't believe that finish for Monmouth on Thursday.
Campbell's up four with eight seconds left and they lose.
Sickening! 37 big points from Rice.
We were awesome against Rice the last time, but we also
benefited greatly from the foul trouble he was dealing with.
With TSM and others paying particular attention to him, I
thought that he took contested looks all night. I do wonder
whether cutting off the head of the snake (Rice) incapacitates
this team. Collins and Konstantynovskyi haven't proven to be
consistent second guys. Bashir, Spence and Valencia aren't bad,
but they aren't going to kill you, at least on the offensive
end. Valencia's a slam dunk for the CAA All-Defensive Team, and
he could even be in the DPOY discussion (even though I think one
of these seniors wins it). He's not totally unlike Dubar, who's
       given us problems.
So we did all right against Rice, and offensively, we moved the
ball well last time, getting good looks from deep. What I hadn't
noticed is just how many assisted buckets we're giving up.
Campbell had 29 against us in their win on Saturday. For the
season, our opponents have registered assists on more than 59
percent of their makes this year, ranking us 347th nationally. I
wish I could say "here's what we should do to combat that" or
point to that figure and say "that's why we're struggling so
much defensively" but I'm not sure what that all means in terms
of wins and losses. Houston gives up a higher percentage of
assisted buckets than us, and they're really really good.
Monmouth's sneakily been very good at home, having ripped off
now 11 straight wins at the evidently vaunted OceanFirst Bank
Center. Meanwhile, they're a dreadful 1-11 in true road games.
We have three conference road wins, which isn't too shabby, but
that number could easily be six considering how things ended at
       Towson, Delaware and Hofstra.
We can be pleased with the Hampton result, but the Campbell game
is still just a dagger. Sadly, it more or less knocked us out of
contention for a valuable double bye in the CAA tournament. The
CAA has two teams at 10-3, two others at 9-4, and two more at
8-5, so the likelihood of us climbing over those guys and
winning whatever tiebreaker is necessary to get the 4 seed seems
highly unlikely. As of now, we're looking at an 8/9 or 7/10 game
against Monmouth, Campbell or Northeastern, and then either UNC
Wilmington or Charleston if we're fortunate enough to prevail.
Just looking at the conference leaders, we don't really have any
areas where one of ours could finish in the top spot. Snoddy is
most likely, ranking third in the league in rebounding. TSM is
also up there in minutes and steals. It's also great to see him
on the precipice of cracking the top 15 in scoring all-time at
       SB.
I just like our balance in this one. If TSM isn't going, Clarke
or Noll may be able to. If not them, maybe it's Fitz. If not
Rice, then what for Monmouth? I'm sure that's what every team
says. I do feel like we have the horses to make it tough for
him, and maybe even go in there and win.

The Campbell game may have killed the top 4 hopes but there's
still an advantage to being 5 and 6 instead of 7 or 8, in that
you have to play a gassed 11-14 team that just won the night
       before.
Eventually, Monmouth's home streak has to end right? TSM guarded
Xander Rice pretty well the first time. Pretty crazy that Tyler
Thomas and Xander Rice are the 5th and 6th highest scorers in
the country. TSM is at 246th, but what we do have is four
double-digit scorers, which we haven't had since the 2015-16
tournament team. Does anyone else in the CAA have that? Even
Charleston only has 3. It's been one of our strengths.

Big one for us I think we can win this one Monmouth is due for a
let down after that improbable win.

Hampton did it! They beat Towson 67-61 for their first CAA win.
       Huge impact on the standings.
This one's been a track meet so far, Monmouth looks better than
       they did at our place.
The broadcast is annoying. Please just call the game and save
the interviews for commercial breaks and halftime.

Good back and forth for most of the game, and then we went cold
in the final 4 minutes. Done a good job of limiting Rice, but
then we've been giving guys like Cornelius Robinson shots from
midrange, and then late we had no stop for Konstantofsky down
low, who got offensive rebounds and turned them into points.
We should be feeding Fitz more, he's been our best scorer so
       far.

An unforgivable 10-0 Monmouth run in the first three minutes of
the second half. Jeez guys. 18-2 in the last 7 mins of game.
Back to back Saturdays with a collapse that begins at the end of
       the first half.

Konstantinofsky has 13 pts/14 rebs already. There are 16 minutes
       left in this game.
