This is the textbook definition of a get-well game – a winless
team, back at home, with a closing six-game stretch that has
four games in our gym. The real meat of our schedule is behind
us, but we also can't put a W next to any of these games we have
       left, even Hampton.
They've been bad, so much so that I wonder about Joyner's
long-term future with the team. Yes, they went from the terrible
MEAC to the decent Big South to the better CAA, but their wins
have gone from 18 in 2018-19 (first year in the Big South), to
15, 11, 9, 8 and now 5, with almost no hope of eclipsing last
year's victory total. It just isn't good enough. The team isn't
good, the crowds aren't good, and you wonder what the long-term
plan is there. Will Hampton really be content running it back
after a third straight single digit win year?
Oddly enough, they have some all right pieces. Mullen has
leveled up after a strong freshman year. Maxwell got real
minutes at Georgia Tech before transferring in, and they even
got a really good talent in Deng, a stretch four who can really
shoot it but also runs the floor and can score around the hoop
also. He started slow, but has gone for double figures in seven
of the last nine games, including 21 in their win over Howard.
It helped him earn Field of 68's national breakout player of the
week earlier this month (and makes me wonder whether he's long
for Hampton). Nesbitt, formerly of Memphis and St. Louis, was
the headliner last year, he's behind Mullen and Wilcox as the
top offensive options. Yet he's turned into a really nice
creator for Hampton, bumping his assist total from just over
three to more than *five* a game in conference play this season.
Another oddity: It's funny how we're seeing the top three
scorers from the now-shuttered St. Francis (Brooklyn) program –
Higgins (Elon), now Wilcox, and to close the season Zion Bethea
(Hofstra, then St. Francis, now Delaware).
It's tough to dress up 5-20 and 0-12. That was a butt kicking on
Saturday against Wilmington, which shot over 60 percent from the
floor. When you don't shoot it well, and don't defend well, AND
turn it over a ton, winning won't come easy. Nonetheless,
they've hung around in a few of these games. Hofstra's really
had to battle for two wins against them this year, trailing late
in the first one and winning by just four last week. A&T (who I
don't think is very good either) beat them by one twice. And you
know they're hungry to erase that zero in the win column.
We haven't shown enough to suggest that anything is a sure
thing, but this is as close as we're going to get to one.

I don't love the shortest guy in their starting lineup is 6'3"
and they have a 4 who can shoot it. Sounds a lot like campbell
which gave Hofstra trouble previously then us a lot of trouble.
Helps this one is at home though.

Beware of the trap home game against a winless (conference)
team! Hampton with absolutely nothing to lose here, and we have
       everything to lose.
Geno better have the boys ready for battle!

Making my first trip to the arena tonight, since my son is in
       town.
For anybody in the athletics department who reads this -> The
AXS.COM website for getting tix is awkward and virtually
unusable on an iPhone. Had to jump on my PC to get the tix, and
the website was down for over 15 minutes before I could finally
purchase them. Maybe this is contributing to low attendance
       this season??????

Hampton very athletic, but they play poor D, and not a whole lot
to their offense. Looks like they only have 8 players dressed.
Glad to see TO play do well and get minutes. Frey looks really
pissed with bad body language, sitting on end of bench.
Edit: Frey may be hurt. My apologies on that initial reaction.

Great first half. We had 45 with three minutes left and it would
have been something if we pushed it to 50 and had us on pace for
       100. Fitz is no match for Hampton's bigs, and good to see Toby
get some great minutes in with him being so buried on the depth
       chart this year.
Shame to hear that about Frey, not something they were showing
       much on the broadcast.

Nice healthy lead. Hopefully the starters can get off their feet
early tonight and save sup some minutes for the road game vs
Monmouth on Saturday. Looks like Frey did get in the game. Did
he get injured during the game?

Feels like they might try to get a red shirt for Nahar. He
hasn't seen the floor in these last few blowouts.
