That top photo gives you good perspective how we have grown .
Expanded seating in the stadium , new concession stands and
restrooms and finally the field house rising in the background
all top notch facilities .

Reminds me of this thread I saw on a realignment board a few
years back.

I think that is the direction our AD wants us to move to . Be
ready if and when the phone rings no catch up needed .

i hadnt seen that thread from 2015 and there are certainly some
interesting thoughts in there.
but, while SB has the location, the surrounding population, the
academics, the will- it may have difficulty with things like
money, attendance, traffic, expenses, LI isn't a hotspot for
recruiting, getting teams to come play at Lavalle, etc.
on geographics- i truly think that the football fanatics down
the coast, midwest, or south look at a map and say wow, that's
near NYC. it's not. it's like 60 miles, and with traffic,
that's a good 2 hours (and less have cars out there). take the
train you say? more like 2.5 hrs all-in if you're lucky.
sitting on 2 lane nicholls waiting to make a left can be awful
on gameday, only topped by the 1 lane on circle road and stadium
road. that's if you're lucky to park nearby.
lack of campus atmosphere doesnt help- student support,
somewhere to eat, get a drink, etc. biergarten is great, and
tailgating is solid, but not where it needs to be. this goes
back to location; we draw NYC/LI students, because out of state
is out of state, and upstate may as well go to Buffy, ualBanY,
or Bingy. one weekend on campus will prove why.
student disaffection and distraction hurts us. locals are
device-distracted too; LIers are busy busy and generally rather
watch at home, or not at all. our campus isn't a showstopper.
this is the striking distinction between SB and JMU.
we aren't alone here. this issue also pains local rivals-
fairfield, nova, hof, SJU, iona, monmouth, possibly army, and
virtually any program in the five boroughs. we just have it a
bit worse. it's why we'll never get gameday, but NDSU did-
twice.
people talk about things like TV contracts but with pro football
and northeasters only caring about the B1G schools they went to,
no one is watching. ask around if anyone watches that columbia
game on channel 557. do i even have channel 557?
also many here think we don't have the coaching chops, which is
up for debate. similarly, it's not the most exciting brand of
football (i happen to like it). throw in some bad weather for
half the season.
other schools hindering our progress, which is covered
extensively in that thread.
athletic money is tight.
what we DO have is: a great stadium, jumbotron, uniforms,
biergarten, academics, facilities, streaming, and a large nearby
population.

We go FBS someday and have a non conference game against a
North Carolina . Syracuse or a military academy the fans will
be hanging on the light posts guaranteed. Of course if we are
in the MAC and our next game is Toledo different story. The
deal is build it and they will come plus advertise and promote
the games . Army posts their schedule on Metro North Trains ,
stations and in Grand Central . Fordham posts their basketball
schedule come November the same way . It can be done with some
effort.

Have to wonder what is next on the Masterplan . We already
have a new basketball floor in a four year old facility which
from the pictures looks pretty cool . So is a referb of Joe
Nathan Field and the Softball field , a new soccer venue that
has been mentioned or whatever else.
