       Geno Ford extended to 2026

       Official now.

       A two-year extension in name but it's really just a one-year
extension because no one keeps a lame duck coach on, which isn't
the end of the world, but I know it's not exciting news for the
fanbase, so next year is his real make-or-break performance.
Heilbron using the college kid reporter as his mouthpiece to
test the fanbase reaction before announcing it himself is
cowardly behavior on his part, though, not that we expect
anything better from him at this point.

"Under Ford's direction, Stony Brook has posted a stellar 44-23
(.657) record at Island Federal Arena. The Seawolves are one win
shy of posting double-digit home wins for the third time during
the Ford era and the 11th time since the 2009-10 season."
I know it's the spin room's job to promote this as a good thing,
but leading with the home record and omitting the overall
results could not make it more clear that, eh, I dunno, he's all
right. I could honestly give coaches a pass for having to deal
with COVID and then last year's injuries. However, when you
watch them day in and day out, I have to think we could have
done better. Nevertheless, we forge ahead. Next year will be
       interesting.

I know I'm in the minority, but I think Ford deserves the
extension. This years team, despite the frustrating loses, might
be the best team we've had since Pikiell left

He’s got some bad breaks for sure and he had a clean slate this
year but I believe we have one of if not the oldest team in
conference so if not now then when? Next year I assume we’ll
tank or have to bank on a portal reload which im dubious of.
Geno nice guy but he is under .500 career record at SBU being
average gets you extended its just a really bad look. At some
point you have to want to break out of mediocrity we have a shot
to be in the top echelon of this conference delaware is leaving
charleston might also why are we complacent with being between
5-10 makes zero sense. Wide open year this year maybe we go on a
run but barely beating a skeleton crew northeastern team at home
in front of big crowd isn’t that inspiring. Idk im just kind of
sick of being content with being .500 in the private sector you
have to earn your contract geno has not come close to earning an
       extension

Wasn't expecting to see Makale Foreman in the Instagram comments
congratulating Geno, given how he transferred out after just one
       year.

No personal animosity towards Geno.....he seems like an affable
and likeable guy. Players seem to like him (at least, on the
       surface).
Definitely give him a pass on last year with all the injuries,
but if you look at his breadth of work over 5 years, and his
results in Tournament games; very mediocre.
Heilbron is definitely not a risk taker, and plays it safe (too
safe) when it comes to hires. Since Priore is still on the
books (and SBU is effectively double-dipping in football),
perhaps he wasn't given a choice by SBU management, in terms of
his flexibility with men's basketball, from a financial
standpoint. Or maybe Heilbron just takes the easy way out on
such matters. Hard to say without getting into his head.
Our results this year have been mediocre (somewhat disappointing
to date, in my eyes, given the way we've not finished games
well). However, given the senior-laden team that we have, I
will give Geno a bunch of credit for actually scoring these guys
from the portal, although Noll, Clarke, and Sabry are only on
the roster this year, due to their injuries last year.
Nonetheless, with the loss of Policelli, Geno more that
compensated for this loss, with the transfer pickups from last
year and this year. And man, Geno is really going to have to
work his magic again this off-season, with the departure of most
       of this year's team.

aint that the truth. there's more than meets the eye. there's
behind the scenes, what the president allows, budgeting, other
things we dont think of / hear of. i wish it was as simple as
the buck stops here, but it doesnt. there's context we simply
       don't have.

OK I know I'm alone in supporting the extension and also a
chronic SBU optimist, but I actually kind of late the foundation
of this team going forward. Hear me out.
Snoddy: Love the way he's played since mid december. Think he
has all conference potential next year
Frey: Lights out three point shooter who leads the team in
assists despite coming off the bench. This is his first season
of college basketball. He's only going to get better and I think
has all conference potential going forward.
TO: He's taken a smaller role this year behind a bunch of 6 year
guards, but he was a good for 7pts and 3 assists as a true
freshman. I expect a big step forward in his Junior season with
       more of an opportunity
Sabry Philip: Has a strong a case for an extra year of
eligibility. Maybe the most athletic guard we've seen at Stony
Brook. Would love to see what he can with sustained health.
Leon Nahar: Stretch 4 who hasn't had much of an opportunity.
After 2 years in the college weight room, I think he'll be ready
to contribute in a real way for the team.
Transfers - Ford has consistently brought in great transfers
from Greene, Roberts, Noll, Clarke, Fitz, Maidoh. We have every
reason to believe he'll be able to find a 1 or 2 major
       contributors
Overall, i actually think we're in the best position we've been
in since we lost the entire team during covid
