A bit strange to be saying that when we just beat Purdue and #2
LSU to start the season
[/quote]
Not strange if you don’t consider losing 3 of 4 games to
unranked Purdue as a big breakthrough.

We're never favored in these games against P5 schools.
Then today we just beat Virginia Tech, which gives us an ACC,
B1G and SEC win in the same season. Yes the record is
objectively not good but considering the expectations, stealing
a game against a P5 school is worth something, especially since
we haven't done that too often in these last few years.

Another noteworthy win today vs. a power conference team VATech
to avoid a series sweep. I’m not an educated fan of this
program, but these are wins that should be celebrated and Senk
is a hall of fame coach. I dunno what lofty expectations some
have each year for a mid-major northeast school (that still
doesn’t have permanent lights on the field, which is ridiculous)
but so far they are looking like a team that should be able to
compete for a conference title this year. Time will tell.

The CAA is also a huge step up: 7th in conference RPI last year,
while America East was 24th in our final year. It also shouldn't
be forgotten the string of unfortunate events that befell this
program since we last made the NCAAs: 2020 preseason #1, season
cancelled because of COVID. 2021, regular season champions,
advanced to the title game, the conference gave it to NJIT
instead in the rain debacle. 2022, regular season champions,
banned from the America East tournament because of the
conference move.
Quickly browsing through our schedule, we hadn't beaten a P5
opponent since 2012! And now we've done it three times already
in one year. Granted, we normally don't schedule more than one
series per year -- and there's been many years where we've had
zero -- but I'm pretty sure three P5 wins in one year is the
all-time record, I see 2012 (Kansas, Minnesota) and 2011
(Michigan 2x) as our only years with 2. The P5 delineation in
baseball isn't everything since there's a lot of warm weather
schools in California and southern states that thrive, so we've
played a lot of other schools like Coastal Carolina when they
were ranked, UCSB the year after Shane Bieber left early for the
draft, but I've never once thought that our baseball program was
in a bad place.

Great win today but how have they not installed lights yet??
Every town field in Brookhaven has permanent lights.

The 2022 conference title debacle we forfeited was because of a
rain delay and not having adequate lights to finish the game
that night. The AE conference commissioner called the game. I
know there was a significant anonymous gift match made to help
revamp both baseball and softball facilities with lights.
However, I believe it stalled because the school was unable to
raise enough donations to match the anonymous gift and make it
happen. Perhaps it’s still in the works but others on here may
have more insight. on that.

Another win vs Seton Hall today. Beating a Big Ten, SEC, ACC and
Big East opponent in the same season is impressive no matter
what.
