It's been a long time since we went into Hofstra's arena and
gave ourselves a chance to win. Maybe not better-than-average,
but there's no reason we can't compete and right what went wrong
       in the first go-around.
Sadly, we're 1-13 at the vaunted (I guess) Mack Sports and
Exhibition Complex. The lone win came in 2007 when we led by 22
with 13 minutes to go and very nearly coughed it up. This was
the year before things started to get kind of serious under
Pikiell. We went 16-14/8-8 the next year and won the AE regular
season title the year after that. Crazy though – 16-plus years
       ago.
We definitely got their attention the last time, not that they
were playing well enough to overlook anybody at that point. It
really was a shame because did everything we needed to to stop
Thomas, and Dubar and Carlos went nuts on us. Dubar is some
shooter – he was over 40 percent last year too, and he's in the
same spot this year but with more volume. He's run his streak of
games with two or more made threes to 13, all while averaging 20
points a night and leading the team in rebounds, steals and
blocks in conference play. He has to be in the running for
All-CAA First Team, if not POY, although there really are some
       outstanding candidates all around.
First team guess: Rice (Monmouth), Williams (Drexel), Dubar
(Hofstra), Davis (Delaware), White (UNCW). I think one Hofstra
player makes it but not two, and Dubar's all-around game can't
       be ignored.
We gotta knock down shots, guys. In our four conference wins,
       we're shooting .365 from three-point land (27 for 74); in our
four losses, just .253 (20 for 79). I feel like we saw a glimpse
of good ball movement the last couple games where we had more
rhythm threes than not. I'm good with a few shots a few feet
behind the arc if it's an open look. Let's keep it moving. And
anything where Clarke is going north-south, putting the defense
on its heels, drawing fouls, etc., is good for us.
It's crazy how we've gone all-in on the post-up game, at least
relative to what we've seen in the past. But you just can't do
it when it's Otchere, Gueye, Sturdivant and Petras or undersized
forwards like Yeboah, Garcia, et al. The first group didn't have
the offensive games for it; the latter guys just weren't big
enough and were probably more comfortable on the perimeter. I'd
say Policelli was the closest to it, and I don't think that
natural for him either. But Fitz[s]morris[/s]magic and Maidoh
have done a nice job down there. With Maidoh, I wonder if how
often he was asked to do it at Fairfield, and Fitz'
contributions have been needed, no matter how unorthodox it
looks sometimes. Evidently the only cure for what was ailing us
       was 15-foot jump hooks!
He almost always dunks lefthanded too. I wonder how that came to
be. Love the fire and the top-speed departures too.
We're both 4-4 in conference play, tied with three other teams,
and KenPom has us both finishing 10-8 in conference. Looking at
the remaining schedules, Hofstra's is considerably more
difficult, with five games against the teams ranked 1 through 4
right now: a home-and-home with Drexel, home to Towson, and then
at UNC Wilmington and at Charleston to end the season.
Meanwhile, we only have one game left against that grouping,
that being at Drexel a month from now.
This one would really mean so much. We have pocketed two
terrific wins in the last few days, two that easily could have
gone the other way, and before that we had devastating collapses
that had us all up in arms. To go into Hofstra and win would
feel really significant given our struggles there and our most
recent defeat at their hands. Can we really limit Thomas again?
Can Hofstra get eight more threes from Dubar/Carlos? I do feel
like we can replicate the defensive effort on Thomas, with a few
athletes who can stay in front of him and have a hand in his
face on the perimeter. But I do worry about that duo again.
They're so good. We'll need to be better to have a shot.

All of a sudden, this game means a lot, since we're back in the
hunt at 4-4. Their 3-headed monster are all great players; the
rest of the team mediocre at best. Game will be tough on the
road, but not sure how Hofstra draws in their place.
BTW, aside from Flo, the game is also on MSG.

agreed. other than the warney/mcgrew years, we didnt have the
right personnel back there. we do now. and despite our record,
that's why i think we are playing better this year. this
started at the end of last season. id love to see more passing
but i can live with directional improvement!

Just bought tickets to the game. Center court 5th row from the
floor, so, doesn't look like it will be a big crowd tomorrow
unfortunately. Should be a great game regardless. Hope we can
       continue shooting the ball well.

Just purchased as well. Was able to get section 110 center court
3rd row. If any other sbu fans want to join, more the better

Hard to script a better start than that. 7 of our first 9 threes
made, and they've been great looks too.

A serious shooting disparity and they’re still very much within
reach. I suspect we’ll see a regression in the second half. Hang
       on to your hats.
