This is the signature athletic program at Stony Brook.(stating
the obvious) It’s remarkable what Spallina has built over the
past decade plus. I’m hopeful this team can make a special run
in the tourney this year

even more remarkable perhaps is keeping him over that run.
every other sustained successful program has lost a coach, no?
maybe senk?

I wouldn’t put Senk in the same category. He may be well-liked
and respected but if it wasn’t for one player (Jankowski) and
one season 12 years ago, he wouldn’t be considered as more than
moderately successful over the years, considering the
competition in the AEC.

it looks like it's going to happen... again. RPI #7.

Virginia and Notre Dame will give the committee a lot to talk
about. UVA is 10th in the RPI and Notre Dame is 11th. Both teams
have bona fide wins — Notre Dame over Northwestern and Boston
College; Virginia over BC. The low RPI will give the committee
pause because that’s the ranking used in initial debates.
Cases can be made for both teams to jump Stony Brook (7th), but
finding ways to argue the Cavaliers or the Irish past Maryland
(6th), Loyola (8th) or Michigan (9th) become difficult.
Nevertheless, we project the top 6 in the RPI to remain
(Northwestern, BC, Yale, Syracuse, Penn, Maryland) and Notre
Dame and Virginia to leapfrog Stony Brook, Michigan and
Loyola.[/quote]

The committee will committee. If this article is correct, I
would not be surprised if 2 or even 3 of the 8 seeded teams get
bounced opening weekend. There is a lot of parity this year.
(Which is rare). RPI or not, Maryland is overrated and not a 6th
seed. Yale and Penn had a great years but they are not
bulletproof. I can’t say we deserve a seed over some of these
other teams but we have a legit argument. Seems we often get
slotted into that 8 seed bracket…Which then sets up a potential
quarterfinal against the #1. We shall see.

true on all points- especially the parity. there really is no
runaway team this year (which is arguably the situation on the
men's side). GO SB

Maryland gets the 4 seed and a cupcake bracket. That is simply
criminal. This committee never fails to fail miserably. We get
absolutely screwed as usual and have to go back up to the dome.
Nevertheless, go SB. Get it done.
