Team has a chance to make statement today against a Stanford
team with similar RPI. I hope Spallina has the veteran group
focused, angry and ready. It could be a tricky weekday spot
where they aren’t focused because the conference #1 seed is
locked up and we aren’t getting a top 8 seed in the NCAA either
way. Nevertheless, it’s at home and could perhaps erase some of
that bad taste of losing to Denver and Hopkins on our turf
earlier this year.

TEWAARATON STOCK WATCH: THE RACE IS HEATING UP
Ellie Masera, M, Stony Brook
Masera has put up video game numbers throughout her career. That
hasn’t changed this spring, as she’s put the final touches on a
strong senior campaign, tallying 61 goals and 27 assists. The
midfielder has posted 25 points — 15 goals and 10 assists —
through her last three games. She’s crafty, creative and knows
how to work her way through an opposing defense. The Seawolves,
8-0 in CAA play, look poised for a strong run in the CAA
tournament with Masera at the helm.

STONY BROOK MAKES IT 10 IN A ROW, BEATS STANFORD
HTML https://www.usalacrosse.com/magazine/college/women/stony-brook-makes-it-10-row-beats-stanford
Stony Brook’s Jaden Hampel scored off a backdoor cut to give the
Seawolves an 11-10 overtime victory against Stanford in a
cross-country matchup of Top 20 teams on Thursday afternoon. The
victory was the 10th in a row for Stony Brook (15-2) and snapped
Stanford’s five-game winning streak.
Stanford (10-4) scored three straight goals to open the fourth
quarter and take a 10-8 lead, but Stony Brook’s Isabella
Caporuscio and Alexandra Fusco scored in the final 10 minutes of
the quarter to tie things up.
Stanford goalie Lucy Pearson came up with a big save off a free
position shot with about two minutes to go in regulation and
then both teams turned the ball over on their final possessions
in regulation.
A late yellow card on Stony Brook as Stanford tried to clear the
ball at the end of regulation gave the Cardinal a player-up
advantage to begin overtime.
The Cardinal were unable to capitalize as Caporuscio forced a
turnover early in the overtime to get possession. Stony Brook
star Ellie Masera held the ball on the left wing and hit Hampel
on the backdoor cut and she delivered the game-winner.
Masera led Stony Brook with five points on two goals and three
assists and Kailyn Hart and Morgan Mitchell each scored twice.
Aliya Polisky had two goals and two assists to pace Stanford
offensively, including Stanford’s go-ahead goal in the fourth
quarter. Pearson made 12 saves for the Cardinal.
Stony Brook will be the No. 1 seed and host for the Coastal
Athletic Association tournament, which begins on May 2. Stanford
is the No. 1 seed for the final Pac-12 tournament which gets
underway on May 1 in Los Angeles. Stanford’s first game in the
tournament will be on May 2.
Shorthanded OT Caused Turnover, Hampel's Goal Leads Stony Brook
to 10th-Straight Win
HTML https://www.insidelacrosse.com/article/shorthanded-ot-caused-turnover-hampel-s-goal-leads-stony-brook-to-10th-straight-win/63189
Jaden Hampel was the hero with the overtime game-winner in No.
13 Stony Brook’s 11-10 win against No. 19 Stanford.
But —as much as it’s a cliché in sports— there were several
heroic plays leading up to it.
“It all started with the hype from Ellie turning the ball over
first and Cap turning the ball over. The hype from seeing the
opening when we all settled. When I saw the opportunity I
thought, ‘I can’t waste this.’ The hype from all the plays prior
just set me up perfectly,” said Hampel.
She’s not really giving herself enough credit for the angle she
took the net and lefty finish, but the point remains. Stony
Brook was man-down heading into overtime but went into attack
mode on the ride. Ellie Masera first pressured Stanford’s Jordyn
Case but was flagged. Then Isabella Caporuscio picked up where
she left up and knocked the ball loose to set up the
game-winning possession.
They maybe didn’t even get there without Aaliyah Jones, who made
seven saves but also beat a Stanford player to the endline on
the last defensive possession of the game to get the Seawolves
out of a jam.
It was Stony Brook’s 10th-straight win and second in overtime
(Syracuse was the other).
There wasn’t anything about the late-April Top 20 nonconference
matchup that was easy. Stanford was in control at 10-8 with
under 10 minutes remaining. Caporuscio scored a big one with
9:07 before Alexandra Fusco tied it.
Masera had five points (2G 3A) and eight draw controls; It was
her fourth-straight game of five-plus points and eight or more
draw controls. Kailyn Hart and Morgan Mitchell had two goals
each..
Avery Hines and Rachel Rosenberg were crucial in front of Jones.
Up next for Stony Brook is the CAA Semifinals on Thursday May 2.
They will play the No. 4 seed.
