It's wild to think of how our season deteriorated after stunning
Northeastern in this very spot – our conference opener – a year
ago. We beat them at Matthews, toppled Monmouth before they got
good, and a week later, beat Drexel on a missed shot at the
buzzer. And then went 3-11 the rest of the way. I think we all
       saw that coming.
I don't know that any of us know for sure what's coming in 2024.
You see glimpses where we clearly appear to be the better team,
and other times like we're a house of cards that's wobbling
under even token pressure. I mean, that Brown finish was
ridiculous. Before that, Army. Before that, Wagner and Rider.
What's most notable about the Huskies is that they're big. If
you take out Glen McClintock, a 12 minutes guy, the whole team's
between 6-5 and 6-9. No real rim protection a la Fitz and
Maidoh, but we are very small in the backcourt. I'm less worried
about Pridgen, Troutman, etc., backing down our guys on the
block than I am about their ability to rise up over our guards,
get on the offensive glass and give us problems with their
length defensively. Their young backups, Rashad King and Harold
Woods, play major minutes at 6-6, and even 6-5 freshman William
Kermoury got a spot start. This is a team that lost by two at
Virginia and by two at home against Vermont, winning the
rebounding battle on both occasions. And against Vermont they
had only two boards from Doherty, which shows you they have a
few guys who can do it. We heard about how the CAA is,
generally, a step up physically from the AE, and this is an
       example of that.
One thing about NU is they don't have anybody like Jahmyl
Telfort, who I thought was just a different level talent last
year. He's now averaging 14 and 5 for Butler. A quick check on
CAA transfers: Timberlake (Towson) is averaging four points a
night for Kansas. Nelson Jr. (Delaware) is averaging 11 plus for
TCU. Estrada (Hofstra) is averaging 13, 5 and 4 for Alabama.
Without Telfort, they're a little more balanced, with Doherty
leading the way in the scoring column. He doesn't have a lot of
wiggle to his game but kind of grinds his way to his numbers. I
liken him to "Irish" Micky Ward, who grew up about a half hour
from where Doherty did. Blue-collar kid, and by "kid", I mean
almost 25-year-old. Good passer too. I like our length against
him. A year ago, we held him to 11 and 5 in our win, 4 and 3 in
our loss, and suspect we'll have similar success with Maidoh now
       in the fold.
Sakota was a real asset for Harvard the last few years before
transferring, but his shot has tailed off, now under 30 percent
from three for a second consecutive season. He's a more than
willing driver, and can hit the mid-range shot. A little bit of
a gunner for me though. I remember being sort of meh on Pridgen
last year too. He's all right. It's Troutman who killed us. This
feels like another game where, given their glut of wings, Snoddy
       will play major major minutes.
This is not a three-point shooting team, averaging fewer than
six makes a game. For reference, we're closer to nine a night.
It just isn't an emphasis for Northeastern, but it's
nevertheless one of Coen's best-ever offensive squads, averaging
the most points since, oddly enough, a deadly three-point squad
from the 2018-19 season (38.3% from deep that year). Might we
throw a zone at them Thursday?
Strange stat: Northeastern went 40 for 51 from the free throw
line in a win over Old Dominion. In the aforementioned losses to
Vermont and Virginia, they went 6 for 10 combined from the
stripe, including 0 for 3 against UVa. Worth noting: They're one
of those teams that has made more free throws (197) than their
       opponents have attempted (183).
Before starting this post, I went in thinking that we'd go up
there and win again. I don't know now though. Beyond Fitz and
Maidoh, NU's advantage in size and depth is just so jarring. NU
       by a few.

A little worried Northeastern's PF shoots 42% from 3. That
killed us against Army when their 4 was shooting 3's over Keenan
all day. Agree with Checkmate it may be a heavy Snoddy game.
Defensively they don't guard the 3 well so hopefully that works
in our favor. Need to get Noll going again.

Pretty cool CBSSN did an actual pre game show for the game. One
of the few pros to switching from ESPN+ to this tv contract is
       the few national tv games

Horrendous so far. Every shot’s been off balanced and in
       traffic. Layups for Northeastern.

we've fallen behind, but our shots will start to fall.
northeastern looks like an old school motion offense. keep
moving, pick/repick, cut, pass, etc. they look like an all star
       team out there.

Sloppy play by sbu but i still think this is a winable game if
       we can settle down.

Love our defensive intensity, but some woeful shots on offense.
       Noll has to stop shooting.
