Geno getting extended would honestly shock me if we finish
around 7-9 he has a .500 or worse record. I think he is holding
the post season ban for the year we were preseason AE favorites
over helibrons head plus last years injury debacle. Brown is not
a good team we should beat them consistently. Now look at SUNY
buffalo they fired their middling coach and went into the tank
maybe Helibron is scared of that too is that a justifiable fear
to stay with mediocrity? I will say in Genos defense he runs
better stuff than just iso ball I think partly because he was
forced to do that last year. Lets go beat northeastern and shock
Charleston I expect a good crowd for that one.
[/quote]
I would not be surprised, and also do not expect a < 0.500
record this year.
1. The CAA has a tier of solid teams, and a tier of outright
dregs. Few teams are right in the middle (the only teams in the
"middle" of the NCAA are Northeastern, Monmouth and us. Everyone
else is either < 200 or 297 and above). If we hold serve, we
should win @Campbell, vs. NCA&T, @Elon, vs. Hampton, vs.
Monmouth, vs. Northeastern, and @ and vs. W&M. If we take one
more from Northeastern or Monmouth, or win @Towson we will have
a 0.500 conference record and a > 0.500 overall record.
2. The key difference between Ford and Priore is that Ford is a
likeable person and his players and the people around him seem
to genuinely like him. He also seems to win a majority of the
time when he should. Is he an X's and O'x guy? No. But nor was
Pikiell. Was the Wagner loss unfortunate? Sure. However, I
watched Pikiell choke vs. Manhattan at home with a great team -
these things happen. Ford in my opinion has not done anything to
get himself fired, unlike Priore - who did literally everything
possible to get himself fired. So long as we're not a CAA
embarrassment and show year over year improvement (we are, even
if it's a relatively small increment), I'm fine with an
extension.
3. As has been mentioned here before, I think that this
athletics department has an identity problem. Our University
president doing everything possible not to mention athletics
doesn't help, but the big issue is that we're in an expensive
geography in a region that's dense with mid- and high-major D1
teams. It would take a lot of money to compete. Our budget is
high, but a lot of that is debt servicing. I think we haven't
decided what type of program we are yet, and won't spend
differently until we make that decision.

Does anyone know if there will be a "fan" bus to the
Northeastern game?

this is what im seeing too.
so, however we got there, it's directionally improved. to what
degree, we can all disagree on of course.

I just wonder what we're trying to be. For example, Mike Martin
has been at Brown for 12 years. He's 139-163, and they've never
finished higher than fourth in the league. Fourth! Yet they've
kept him around (of note, he's a grad). It's tough to find guys
who have been with programs for a decade and haven't had any
success, yet have avoided the chopping block.
Or are we a place like Fordham, and most other places, where
guys have their chance, and if they don't perform well, they're
out? Are we content with .500 given the craziness of the past
few years, or are we trying to do better, trying to energize the
student body and community, etc? Because right now they are not.
Not that the athletic department isn't partly to blame, but we
gotta win to really get wind underneath our sails.

this is a good post that has good questions. the athletic
director top administrators are to blame. the program was doing
really well until heilbron arrived. the basketball arena was
full for pretty much every game. The football games had a lot of
fans. he kept the football coach around and to answer your
question the athletic director decides who we want to be and he
doesn't do a good job. again we are hearing that genos extension
is a done deal. theres your answer for basketball. we already
had the answer for football. the facilities are really bad. Look
at the football locker rooms and the baseball field. This is who
sb is.

there is not enough interest in the program for fan buses to
away games. a couple of fans have charted a bus in the past
recently to go to army but i dont think it was open to anyone
they just did it.
