Just popped up on my Twitter that starting safety Nick Chimenti
decided to exit the portal and come back. Had 48 tackles, 3 INTs
this year.

If I’m not mistaken at the last home game only 3 players used up
their eligibility and last count 12 players or so went into the
portal and with Nick now back that’s a good thing.

I dont think that he tweeted he had any offers.
[/quote] There is a real glut of players in the portal IMHO. The
top FCS guys are being scooped up but I wouldn't expect all of
the portal guys to find a home. And, keeping it real, the SBU
players from the team that went 2-19 the last two years may not
be the top FCS players. We may see more heading back to SBU from
the portal.

Once a player goes into the portal and decides that he wants to
come back that’s not a given that SBU will take them back
especially if there’s better options available to them.

The players who are smart and didnt get offers will start to
look at d2 and d3 schools where they can play.

Perhaps those 2 tweets were for new coaches and not new players.
Just a guess, but I would like to know, too, if anyone has info.

January 11 I believe ends the dead period so I would think that
SBU should be bringing in potential recruits shortly. Also
usually a lot of colleges have their junior days where they
start bringing in 2025 players on campus. Having said all this
January is shaping up to be a very busy month for the SBU
coaches so they better release the names of the new coaching
staff soon. I think we’re going to see anywhere from 4 to 6
coaches being held over for Cosh’s Staff

A little bit more info on Junior day it usually takes place on
Martin Luther King Day and anywhere from 50 to 100 HS Juniors
show up and it’s almost always by invitation only
