Let's hope we can avoid a repeat of "the Wagner game." Two years
ago, we had pounded American to make it three wins in four
games, and then out of nowhere we got absolutely annihilated on
our home floor. This time, yes, we haven't had much success to
this point, but I think we also view this as the launching point
       for the season.
Yale was an encouraging outcome, albeit in defeat and albeit
with Knowling being out for Yale. Nevertheless, we saw shots go
down and really competed. Did I think I'd be pleased with moral
victories against an Ivy League team at any point? I did not.
But it's a good way to enter this home stretch.
TBH, I haven't watched any of Wagner this year, but on the
surface, it seems a lot like what we saw with Rider – an
offensively challenged team with even less size. But it could be
a situation similar to ours where they played two A-10 teams and
two Big East teams, and everything will even out.
They went into the offseason in dire need of scoring, and they
tapped into a familiar source – Monroe JC – to get their top two
producers to this point. Gueye and JRod were good gets for us
from there; two of the more notable JC transfers in the last
10-15 years I'd say. Council led Monroe in scoring and assists a
year ago, powering them to a 29-5 season and an appearance in
the NJCAA tournament. Still though, we're talking about a team
with just one double figure scorer, and one that is limited even
more with Rahmir Moore presumably out yet again.
And going back to Wagner's lack of height, only the immortal
Churchill Bounds stands over 6-7, and it's shown in the rebound
column. We're not big, but between Fitz, Maidoh and our guards,
it should be noticeable on the floor on Saturday. We have to
       make it noticeable.
Worth noting: We just went through one of the toughest five-game
stretches this program has ever endured – four top 100 teams per
KenPom. And while we lost all four of those games, I think it's
worth noting how good Frey has been offensively. He has an eFG%
just shy of 58%, and over the last decade, the list of SBU
players who hit 58 or above over the course of a season is
       pretty short.
       Minimum 100 shots (per Hoop-Math)
       Greene 2021-22 (58.5)
       TSM 2021-22 (62.7)
       Warney 2015-16 (63.0)
       Woodhouse 2015-16 (61.5)
       Warney 2013-14 (61.6)
       McAllister 2013-14 (58.5)
       Warney 2012-13 (61.8)
       Joyner 2011-12 (61.1)
For the non-data people, eFG accounts for the difficulty of
       shots made – FG + (0.5 x 3PA)/FGA. And I bring this up because
the road eases up for us, beginning with this stretch at home
and continuing into the CAA slate. What might Frey's figures end
up at? I don't know that he's our #1 at any point this year, but
#2 isn't out of the question for me.
It does feel good to have so many threats in our backcourt.
There hasn't been a minute this year where you've looked at the
five guys on the floor and wondered where we were going to get
points from. Clarke can create, Noll finds a way, TSM we know,
and then Frey is an obvious threat from the perimeter. I've been
pleased to see him do a little in the mid-range too.
As for these next five games, anything less than 3-2 is a
disaster. I think we'd all sign up for 4-1, and 5-0 would be
terrific obviously. Bryant already has a marquee win. Norfolk
State's beaten two CAA teams already. Stonehill had a lead late
on UMass Lowell.. And these Seahawks took Fordham to OT so we
have to be careful. We're not in a position to take anybody
       lightly anyway.

       checkie youre a superstar.
as excited as i am about frey's shooting- he's starting to pile
up assists. that means, word is getting out, and instead of
shooting into traffic, he's passing the ball. that also means
when he takes shots, he's increasing his % by not taking a
       contested attempt.

Thanks, Checkmate. Maybe it's me, but I'm not as impressed with
Frey as you guys are. I think his one major drawback is foot
speed. I feel like he's got a good shot when he's wide open and
his feet are set. But I see him struggle to get open often, due
to the superior speed of the guys guarding him. He's definitely
got a sweet stroke from the line, but unfortunately, he doesn't
       get there too often.
I hope TO regains his minutes off the bench, and that last game
was an anomaly. I don't want to see Clarke playing 30+ every
       night.
We need to win 4 of the next 5, if we're going to be legitimate
contenders in the CAA, IMO. It's payback time tomorrow, for the
       butt-whipping we took last year.

I wouldn't say I'm enamored with Frey but I'm definitely
intrigued about what he will look like later this year and in
coming seasons. We have not been blessed with outstanding
perimeter shooting as you may have witnessed. It's worth noting,
however, that he's played seven college games so there's a lot
of room to grow. He's in the Sekunda mold, but I think his
offense is a little more developed, and then it's a question of
whether he gets better or flattens out.
I too am curious about TO's role. Noll was the hot hand against
Yale so Geno may have ridden that.
Two non-St. Joe's points from Philip and Frederick. Philip's
been our ninth guy, but I suspect we'll see more of Nahar with
       Muratori shelved.

Frey spreads the floor because teams have to guard him past the
three-point line, which allows for better spacing.
I'm sold on Nahar, but maybe if he played more we'd see his
limitations. If I recall correctly, he hardly played last year
in the conference tournament, despite the short bench.

I like Frey but I'm trying to not let the St Joe's game bias me
too much so far. Feel like he's better suited as a SG but depth
at the guard position has pushed him more towards the 3. Would
like to see Nahar eat into Snoddy's minutes a little bit. Just
really feels like the offense flows nice with Nahar on the
       floor.

Aaron Clarke not starting tonight. Maybe the back issue? Noll,
       Frey, TSM, Snoddy, Maidoh

same on fitz, yes, more fitz.
great start. its 15-3, and wagner's only score was a deep ball
that rattled 4 times before falling in. they are missing threes
       all day.
am i crazy or are we running very short shifts? If so i like
it. use the depth; otherwise, why have it.
