After we've taken our lumps, and they've taken their lumps, both
of us are aching to get into the win column to get this thing
pointed in the right direction. For us, a loss here and it's
nine long days to the Yale game, and that's not looking so good
       either.
Rider's biggest issue last year – three-point shooting – remains
the case, even with bringing in some impact transfers. TJ Weeks
looked like he was going to follow in his dad's footsteps as a
standout at UMass, hitting 49 percent of his threes as a
freshman, but tailed off and was a bit of an enigma. But he had
his 20-plus nights too, so we have to be careful. His brother,
Tyriek, who came in from Miami Dade JC, hasn't made his impact
felt just yet after averaging 14 and 7, knocking down 40 percent
of his threes. Take out the win over Immaculata and Rider's
shooting just 25 percent from deep. Rider's not looking for it
to be a major means of production, but can't live without it
       completely either.
I do like their backcourt though. McKeithan is your prototypical
small guard whose speed might give us problems. Like Weeks,
Powell's shot has fallen off as he became more of a focus of the
defense. He's nevertheless a threat with his shot or off the
bounce, and should be in contention for an all-conference spot
before all is said and done.
I'd feel better if TSM was playing, but I could easily see them
holding him back to have the additional rest leading up to Yale.
Up front, we need a big night from Maidoh defensively, and I
think he's just the guy to be assigned to James, the preseason
conference player of the year. Nice player – can put it on the
floor, can finish at the rim, get on the offensive glass, etc. –
but Maidoh's just been so good. Yet had he stayed at Fairfield,
there's no way he gets all-MAAC consideration. 13 minutes a
game. Just another guy there. So puzzling.
In addition to who knocks down shots (obviously), I feel like we
need a big game on the glass. We have gotten killed in our first
three games, 135-90. If you look at the defensive glass alone,
we have 51 in three games – that's the other team shooting it
well, but we've also given up 45 offensive rebounds. That's
worse than any three-game stretch in at least the last eight
years. With all of our misses, we've collected 39 offensive
boards; Rider's got 38. With shots not falling, those extra
       chances are key.
Notable stat: Paint points for the season – (albeit very good)
Opponents 108, Stony Brook 56. The 108's worse than any
three-game period last season. Again, I get who our opponents
have been and admire the courage to schedule them all in a row.
       But ... yuck.
I keep coming back to how many wins it's going to take for Geno
to keep his job. If the number's 20, we have to go 19-9. If it's
18, we have to go 17-11. When we scheduled like we did at the
beginning of the year – a hit by all accounts – most of us
probably expected to be sitting at 1-3, but we also got shelled
in all three losses and gave up 80-plus points in each. This is
one of those toss-ups that Geno has to win. Lose too many of
these and we're looking at sub .500 for the year.
Or ... we round into shape in what feels like a wide open CAA.
Maybe the relative haplessness against high majors is a mirage
and this one helps get us going.

No TSM on the list of projected starters, so as we might have
expected, he's likely out. Frey gets the starting nod.
The Nebraska game was probably the first time we came down the
floor and thought "find Frey." That run he went on was
something. With somebody like Clarke who can get downhill,
having Frey out there can make his defender choose between
stopping dribble penetration or staying out on Frey, neither of
which is an ideal situation defensively. Pitino opted to stay
out on the shooters, which is why we had so much room in the
       mid-range.

I don't hate getting Frey an extra 10-15 minutes tonight if
thats what TSM sitting out means. We haven't seen him yet
against a "CAA-level" opponent yet. If he has another nice
shooting night we may be asking if he should start against Yale
       - regardless of TSMs health.

I am seeing the monthly subscription to FloSports at $14.99 a
month. Is there a less expensive option? I entered the site
       through the SB BB page.

Silly to say this in November, but I'm saying it anyway. I think
this is a really big game tonight. Loved your point, Checkmate,
about how many games they need to win for Geno's job to be safe.
As a fan, if we lose at home to Rider, we're clearly no where
near a top 200 team in the country and it's going to be hard to
get excited for games in the near future.

These 6:31 start times are so goofy. Just make it 7 like normal,
       Shawn, please.

my god. the opening shot was the commentary with exactly two
people in the background (one blocked by pav). and a sea of
       empty red seats.

I think the camera operator should zoom out more that way we
could check the roof for leaks too
