We clamor for these tests against major conference teams, but
geesh, this is the tough part of it – not competing terribly
well. The St. John's game, maybe, but Duquesne was a debacle.
Some of the familial ties on the Nebraska roster are
interesting. We just faced Wilcher's brother at St. John's. They
both grew up with Jamarques Lawrence in Plainfield, NJ, and
played with him at Roselle Catholic on what were nationally
ranked teams. Sam Hoiberg (coach Fred's kid) walked onto the
team a couple years ago and is now a significant contributor.
Ahron Ulis' brother, Tyler, had 10 and 7 against us in the NCAA
Tournament with Kentucky. Additionally, Tominaga, back from
injury Monday, ranked fourth in scoring for Japan in this
summer's FIBA World Cup (didn't play the US though) and was on
       their 3-on-3 Olympic team.
It's a big year for Hoiberg, who may be coaching for his job.
They had three straight 20-loss seasons on his watch, and
appeared to be headed for a fourth until a late run got them to
the .500 mark. They got hit by graduation, but Hoiberg made some
hay bringing in transfers who could help, particularly Mast and
Williams, who averaged double digits at Bradley and Charlotte
respectively last year. They add much needed might for when the
B1G schedule arrives, inexplicably on December 6 – just so much
earlier than ours. Factoid: The Huskers have 23 games remaining
against teams in the KenPom top 100. After tomorrow, we have two
       (Yale and Michigan State).
Tominaga, a preseason All-Big Ten selection, has earned the
nickname "The Japanese Steph Curry" and you can see why. He'll
pull up from anywhere, and they'll run him around screens to get
looks. He earned more minutes as last year went on, and his
emergence was largely responsible for the Huskers' strong
finish, averaging over 20 points a night over the last nine,
knocking down 28 threes. Plays with fire too. I'd take him.
Wilcher's another dangerous shooter. I also really like the kid
Mast, who gives off Nikola Jokic/Domantas Sabonis vibes. Allick
too – just an active big who can easily switch onto smaller
       defenders.
Even though we've given up 175 points, I feel like our defense
has a shot to be good this year. We battled for 20-30 minutes
before losing sight of St. John's and Duquesne. I think we can
hang with Nebraska on the defensive end, in part because I don't
think they have blow-by guards or wings like Clark, Rozier,
Ledlum, Jenkins, et al. Rider was down one midway through the
second half before a nine-minute scoring drought.
Offensively, I feel like we're disjointed as usual. Crazy – we
have 12 assists on our 56 two-point makes per HoopMath, and that
includes the St. Joe's game, including just two assists on 25
made two-point jumpers. Maybe it'll take time to get into the
swing of things, and things will inevitably improve (I think?)
against weaker competition. But I feel like we've been over this
before with the offensive stagnancy. I need a stat on percentage
of no-no-no-yes makes by team. We lead the country in that. Or
       maybe I'm just a curmudgeon.
Individually, Frey took 10 shots in his debut last year and we
never saw him again. Looked good – confident, quick. Thought we
had something. Yet just five shots in two D-I games this year. I
wonder if we're going to see him pop off at some point. I keep
waiting for him to be the second coming of The Microwave off the
       bench.
Even with our early doldrums, 18 feels a little high to me.
Keeping this in single digits would feel like a win at this
       point.

As I look at the heights on their starting 5, with 4 of them 6'5
or taller, I just don't see how we'll be able to rebound with
them. A lot of one and dones for us on offense and a lot of
second chance points for them when were on defense. Going to
need to do better than the 10-37 from 2 we had on Monday. Side
note - can't believe we finished 41% from 3 on Monday. Final
       score could've been worse!
Something tells me the lineup lands something like TO at the 1
and Clarke at the 2 before long. Clarke looked really good on
Monday stepping into 3's. TO looks comfortable with the drive
and kick. Felt like all those ugly shots that went in for Noll
vs St Johns couldn't find the hoop yesterday. Not sure if he's
rusty or just a little undersized/speed for high major games.
Right now our SOS is 48, might be 25 by the end of November.
Funny how easy it is schedule big games when you stink!
Hopefully all these buy games fills up the athletics coffers a
       bit.

Are we stuck with buying a month of Big Ten + or is there a
       workaround?

I just enrolled in an on-line class at Nebraska, and I get Big+

I think I'll save myself the $120 subscription fee (cause I'll
forget to cancel) and maybe listen to the game on Nebraska radio

TSM is out tonight and Frey is starting. Announcer said he’s
       icing his ankle..

Could explain why TSM's shooting had been a bit off so far.
Though he was really good in the second half against Duquesne

I’m thinking it possibly happened in warm ups? The social media
team posted the warmup photos and he was warming up.
