What's a reasonable time frame to expect a new coach to be hired
by?

good post NJ. my wish list- in addition to yours:
-i like the concept of a patriot/ivy coach. someone familiar
with academic rigors.
-someone who understands the challenges of college football on
LI, the disadvantages of the U, it's geography, location,
student disaffection, the campus limitations, etc. Even the
"bad mid fall weather" we talk about sometimes.
-modernize the offense a bit. it's time. i havent coached in
many years but we all know that offense used to be 10vs11, until
about 15-20 years ago when QBs started isolating DEs with an
optional carry. now its 11vs11. (pro is different, because so
much resources are dumped into developing the QB, that you can't
risk 5-10 carries a game. college has always been different but
it may be converging.)
-fans might need to be patient. with the portal, the coaching
change, the losing, the pandemic- there will be turnover and
there will be delays. you all wanted this, now you got it- and
overnight magic is hard to find. also, send in some cash will
ya.
[/quote]
We all wanted a complete clean house. Not just P. only half the
job was completed. Still better than doing nothing I suppose,
but if you want a new beginning. The entire AD office needs to
be let go and start fresh

So not actually fired. Likely re-assigned to administrative job.
I imagine he'll just end doing a lot of cold calling alums
asking for donations or something.

I actually like that. Make him work for his money until his
contract is over. At least you can get some work out of the guy
rather than just buying him out for free.
True, and I understand your logic. But with a new HC and quite
possibly, new assistant coach hired. What the heck is Priore
going to be doing for the next 24 Month?? Recruit???? God, I
hope not.
Here is my opinion on why he is here for two more years, and not
immediately fired.
Priore has 18 yrs with SBU as a state employee, when you hit the
20 year mark your pension is much higher. I’m assuming he was
tier 2, like I was in the NYPD, many moons ago.
Cops got 2 1/2 years of pension service for every year on. So
twenty years on gave us 50% pension. I’m not sure how it works
with coaches contract though. But I’d imagine his pension is
with more with twenty years on oppose to 18. This is my take on
it.

I doubt Priore is in the NYS pension fund. Coaches don't expect
to stay in anyone place very long so typically it's smarter to
opt for the deferred tax option where you're certain to vest

“When we met yesterday … I told him we were making a change,”
Heilbron said in an interview with The Statesman.
Heilbron confirmed that Priore has not been fully terminated
from Stony Brook Athletics, but he is being reassigned to a
different position within the organization. The two parties are
yet to agree on a determined role, but are in the process of
figuring that out.
“I didn’t fire Chuck, we’ve simply made a change in leadership,”
Heilbron said. “We’re working through the logistics of what all
of that looks like. When Chuck and I met, I told him we were
making a change, and he has the right to do due diligence on his
end, as do we.”
Being a union employee, Priore’s contract makes things difficult
for the department to cut ties entirely. His most-recent
extension specifies a $675,000 buyout if he is fired after year
one, which represents a likely deterrent for the University to
terminate him entirely.
“As a state employee, as a member of the union, he has rights
that make this an interesting situation,” Heilbron said. “So I
want to make sure that he’s able to do that, but we are terming
it as a change in leadership of the football program.”

Misery ends for Stony Brook football in fitting fashion

The loss guaranteed two firsts for the program: its first-ever
double-digit loss season and winless year in school history. It
also ensured the team’s second consecutive last-place finish in
the Coastal Athletic Association (CAA).

Mike Anderson deserves a pulitzer. I'm floored by those quotes
from Heilbron. So the head football coach at Stony Brook is a
union job? And from my reading of those quotes, Priore is
getting his union rep involved?

I don’t think they need to rush this hire. Since we likely
aren’t going to poach a CFP assistant we won’t need this thing
to drag into the new year. I’d expect December to be honest.

I'm hearing the front runner is UPenn's coach, Ray Priore. Just
kidding. Good luck with your new coach selection.
