Agreed- I expect this job to still get a lot of interest. It’s
still a well paying HC job. Priore was amongst the highest paid
FCS coaches period. There aren’t that many head coaching
opportunities out there.
Excited to see who they interview for this job. This job hire
should be make or break for Heilbron.

Had to be done. Whoever they get I hope they bring a modern
offensive set with them, and can recruit a top CAA caliber quab.

hard to justify the 0-10 record. but i wish him well on the
next steps.
biggest questions- who replaces (already been asked), are the
old blood or do we clean house, how do we pay this.
jimbo fischer is free (im kidding).

The firing of P is a start, but not a fix all by any stretch of
the imagination. The President needs to clean house in the AD
office and start fresh. But who’s going to moat for SH contract
extension now? That is the question.

A name that might interest SBU is Joe Osovet who was born and
bred on LI played DI Football led Nassau CC to a National
Championship then became an assistant coach at the University of
Tennessee and now he coaches a premier HS Program in Tennessee
called Heritage

I think Heilbron will make a good pick after this experience. He
may have extended Priore out of loyalty for supporting his own
hiring. That’s no longer an issue.

Is it an FBS assistant/position coach coming down to get his
first head coaching gig, or is it a lower division head guy
taking a step up? Will it be a veteran with HC experience a la
Geno, or an up-and-comer like Boals? Do we have to try to get
somebody at a discount because we're still paying Priore?
The OCs and DCs at the highest levels of the game get paid too
much to take this job. We're probably too small-time for
somebody like Steve Addazio at A&M, who's from this neck of the
woods and, at 62, may be on the lookout with Fisher out at A&M.
It'd be a Pitino type hire, albeit a lateral move financially
for Addazio.
I feel like tapping into the Patriot League is definitely in
play. Conlin just got an extension at Fordham. I could see Art
Asselta, the AHC under Conlin who played at Hofstra, got his
master's here and was even a GA here at one point. He has some
Ivy background to him too, which I feel like moves the needle,
and Fordham's put up a lot of points in the past few years.

I agree with your second part. SH extended P contract for three
years knowing quite well he was in decline. Doing so at
taxpayers and donors expense is criminal. I’m my book. He is
wrong for doing that. And we all knew why he did that.
Disgusting!!!!

So not actually fired. Likely re-assigned to administrative job.
I imagine he'll just end doing a lot of cold calling alums
asking for donations or something.

I am shocked! Not that this wasn't deserved, but that SBU
actually canned a coach with contract time remaining.
Maybe kudos to the President, maybe kudos to Heilbron (who may
be trying to save his own hide). Maybe this is part of being a
#58 ranked University in the country.
It's time for a new football era. Hey Geno, warning shot fired.
