What’s great news. First time I’m excited since 2017 playoffs.
Here’s what I want: find out who JMU interviewed in 2019 before
hiring Cignetti. Pick one of the those who didn’t make the cut
at JMU. I bet any of those would be better than whoever we hire.

This is a great day- I give the administration credit for eating
the rest of his contract but he never should have gotten an
extension.
Lyle Hemphill is my first choice. He’s been a great assistant at
the P5 level and I’m sure he would like to be a Head Coach. I
always loved his intensity and his defenses were really the
elite SBU defenses.
Again I know it’s an impossible task but we need a coach who can
find diamonds in the rough in the NY/NJ area. There are some
very good coaches in the CAA and it’s a reputable league- I’m
hoping we can recruit some good candidates.

Once you get a taste of the FBS as a DC your already making more
money than an FCS HC so I don’t think that’ll happen. I’m sure
that SH has a list of candidates already and the quickness he
moved in getting rid of him makes me think that he has people in
mind right now

Wow SBUFAN BOMB! Scoop of the decade. Glad that Heilbron finally
grew the courage. Any chance we can get Hemphill back?

That would be sick. But I doubt if he ever comes back to SBU

I believe he was fired with the quickness because he was due to
have CAA availability in one hour and they university didn't
want the embarassment.

Also doubtful Hemphill comes back. He is one promotion away from
head coach of a nationally ranked FBS team. More realistic
options are assistants/coordinators of the top CAA teams.

Chuck Priore out as Stony Brook's football coach
By Mike Rose
Chuck Priore will not return as the Stony Brook football coach
next season, the school announced Monday morning.
“I am grateful to Chuck for his 18 years of dedication to Stony
Brook University and to the countless young men whose lives he
has impacted,” Stony Brook athletic director Shawn Heilbron said
in a statement. “Under his direction, our program earned
multiple playoff appearances while sending our first wave of
players into the NFL.”
Stony Brook said it will conduct a national search for the
program’s third head coach in its Division I history.
“As we embark upon this transition, the search for the next
leader of our football program begins immediately,” Heilbron
said.
The Seawolves announced that offensive coordinator Andrew
Dresner will serve as interim head coach.
Priore finishes his Stony Brook career with a 97-101 record. He
led the Seawolves to four FCS postseason berths in 2011, 2012,
2017 and 2018.

Chuck Priore out as Stony Brook’s head coach

After the worst two seasons in Stony Brook football history,
Director of Athletics Shawn Heilbron has made the decision to
move on from Priore. His firing comes just one year into a
highly-scrutinized three-year extension that he signed last
summer, though it was not announced until two days before the
2022 season ended. The firing will force the University to pay
him a $675,000 buyout.
With the 2023 season still active for the rest of the Coastal
Athletic Association’s (CAA) teams, Priore was scheduled for his
usual time slot in the weekly coaches’ press conferences. The
announcement came just an hour before his regularly-scheduled
media availability.
Priore never led Stony Brook to a CAA championship. The team’s
last title was in 2012 when it belonged to the Big South
Conference.

I think the Holy Cross head Coach would be a good candidate. He
was in the running for the Delaware job so he would want to
coach in the CAA. After Holy Cross finished in the top 6 last
year he could be ready to go and has realized that he reached
his apex there last year.
Other interesting long shot candidates would be a few coaches
from the PSAC who have had success. Kutztown HC Jim Clements
and Lutz from Slippery Rock. Another name which would have been
out there if this was a year or two down the road is former SB
player Dan Mulrooney. He is in a rebuild at Lock Haven and had
their best season since the early 80s. Went from 1 win to 5 in
his second year there.
What about Ambrose the OC at Albany? He basically saved
Gattuso's job up there in Albany. I can't wait to hear the
rumor mill for the candidates. I just don't know how the AD
survives this and is given the opportunity to pick a new HC
given his track record. I guess we can always hope for a
miracle that he is shown the door next.
This job should get alot of interest.
