If he's not being retained at Duke, why doesn't he? Maybe he's
tried of bouncing around all over the country and is ready to
settle down and be a long term coach here- as opposed to another
coordinator job at an FBS program far away? Let's hope.

The only reason why I can see Hemphill coming here is he’s never
been a HC so come here for a few years turn SBU into a winner
get HC experience and then get an FBS HC job

Given the numerous graduation and portal departures, our roster
is substantially weaker than the roster that went 0-10. Let that
sink in.
We are a few years from success even if we bring in a
portal/recruit wizard and assistant coaches who are player
development guru and a couple others who are offensive/defensive
innovators. Doubt we can do that.
Sooo, the last couple of years may have been the start of a very
long stretch of very awful football.

Per Pete Thamel: "Sources: UCLA assistant Jeff Faris is expected
to become the next head coach at Austin Peay. He’s a Tennessee
native and has been the offensive coordinator at Duke."
Their previous HC, Scotty Walden, left to become HC at UTEP
after back-to-back conference titles. Now it's certainly a
different situation with the Governors, but if Duke really is
cleaning house as previously suggested, and Lyle Hemphill hasn't
gotten any traction moving up from DC, maybe, just maybe, he'll
be willing to entertain becoming HC at SBU for a couple years,
see if he can turn it around even a little bit, and use it as a
spring board to G5 HC.

Not for nothing, but Albany went 6-20 in the last three years
and now they're in the FCS quarterfinals. If the new coach
recruits well enough and brings over players who are better than
the ones we've lost, it could happen.

At some point, these guys want to be a head coach. You don't
coach to stay at the coordinator level forever.
Hemphill led us when the defense was a legitimate force. There
are a handful of homerun hires for this program and he is one of
them.
You guys are getting me too excited!

I wouldn’t get too excited. Hemphill is smarter than that. Why
would he want to play for this school knowing how bad the
administration dept is. Unless the President gives him a huge
yearly salary, the highest in the FCS, he has zero business
coming to Long Island

Eh will find out soon enough. It’s still a head coaching job
that pays 500k a year. Not too many assistant coaches in the
fringe Power 5 programs that make that much. And it allows these
guys to have the chance to prove themselves and move up the
ladder such as Cignetti if they want.
If Nunzio Campanile had truly interviewed here, no way this job
is below Hemphill. Campanile is a local legend with extremely
strong local connections.

If we can actually get Hemphill I consider that a big W.
Hindsight says he should have gotten the job back in 2016 before
we let him walk out the door. I'd like the Hemphill hire 1000%
I can't comment on the Rutgers guy since I don't really follow
them, but IIRC Rutgers had a decent season playing in the Big
Ten and are no longer the free win doormat they've been
historically. That's definitely worth a look as well if he's
willing to consider SBU.

It is not going to pay $500k a year. Priore was way overpaid and
the new coach won't make $300k here.
