getting FBS programs sniffing around, he’d be foolish to move to
a low level FCS teams when he can stick at Holy Cross until an
FBS team actually pulls the trigger on a deal.

Can't imagine a sitting and highly successful FCS head coach
like Bob Chesney would leave the superb facilities and strong
football program at HC and come to Stony Brook. Not saying our
facilities are bad but I think a few commenters are out of touch
with Holy Cross the last five years or so. For one thing,
they've beaten common opponent Fordham six consecutive years,
they recruit at the highest FCS level, their stadium seats
23,000, and their indoor practice facility is FBS level.
I really can't see a highly successful and sitting FCS head
coach heading to Stony Brook.
(As an aside I've wondered if Sluka was recruited out of
Kellenberg by Stony Brook or what the story was with that one
vis a vis Stony Brook.)

the only exception i could see is if he was from the brookhaven
area, or his spouse, etc. that does happen sometimes.
sbufan- yep. newsday was bad 25 years ago; it's seemingly worse
now. check the statesman generally, they do a really great job!

Genuinely quite impressed by the sports journalism coming out of
the statesman right now. Hope they stay for graduate degrees

-He's not...PA I believe, but all NCAA coaching jobs have been
within an hour and a half of each other, including 2 in same
town (Salve Regina-->Assumption-->HC). He's not coming to LI

The Statesman has been on a roll these last few years. If it
weren't for them we wouldn't have known about Chuck's secret
extension. Also thought the article interviewing students about
campus sports culture was really great. Not surprised that
Chuck's been getting snippy with them since they're the only
ones actually looking into things and not just doing Newsday's
surface level recaps.

Bobby Chesney is obviously a top coaching prospect, but all
signs are pointing to him making the jump to FBS. His Next job
is at least Group of 5.

Names that I keep on hearing are some FCS coordinators, some FBS
Position guys. The one name that keeps getting thrown out there
is Charles Eger from the XFL. He is getting a lot of support
from some very big names like Rod Woodson and Boomer Esiason

I think we may end up with a PAL at the end of the day, because
the word is out how bad this program is ran from the AD and the
lack of student involvement and the lack of anything from the
President herself. I don't think any Coach wants to takes the
2nd worst scoring team in the FCS.

Fact!! I have been saying this for years now. This school could
care less about sports. The President made that very clear. SBU
should just drop down to D3, and focus all their attention and
resources on academics. Stop wasting taxpayer's money on
high-payed coaches, all for the sake of taking care of the good
old boys.

Whoever is hired to take over the SBU Program will be starting
from scratch and it sounds like this could take into late
December or longer and who knows how many players he will be
left with. Before he can even recruit a staff will have to be
put together so the 2024 season might not be any better than
2023.
My thoughts we are going to have to be patient with the new
coach
