Heilbron hiring the swim coach and the soccer coach that left
and got fired by Yale? Heilbron extending priore? I dont want
him anywhere near the process of hiring a new football coach and
he cant raise the money to support them. There have been other
issues with coaches.
[/quote]
Didn't know about the soccer coach's scandal, but as Yale said,
it wasn't on his background check. Otherwise, he was a
successful coach. It's really just one bad new hire. The biggest
knock on Heilbron IMO is that he's given coaches too much time
(Priore and Nagle).
Anyway, if Stony Brook takes athletics seriously at all, they
have to fire Priore after this season. Find the money and make
it happen.

Heilbron needs to go before Priore he extended him and is the
problem.

It's clearly obvious that SBU does not take athletics serious in
any capacity. They allowed this failure of a coach to overstay
his welcome. He should have never been extended and then
renewed!!! Renewed based on what merit....oh losses then hell
resign him again because he is the most successful losing coach
in the FCS right now and the most rewarded at the same time.
Only makes sense in the swamp as Hammertime would say.

This just isn't true. We can be frustrated with the performance,
but the university has invested heavily in athletics. We have
the 86th largest athletic budget in the country for public
universities and spend $12M a year more than Albany.

Okay but they are letting this ad waste it over the past ten
years. If you look at albanys football program they are doing
much better. Albany gets fans to come out to games and their
winning. A financial investment is useless if the president
keeps an ad and football coach who does this every year. Your
giving reasons why the administration is bad by saying they have
this big budget and we have 6 losing seasons.

I have to think that $12 million a year would be better spent
improving the student social experience or luring Nobel prize
winning faculty to SB.

I'm saying what I've been saying throughout this thread. We need
to fire Priore. Contrary to others in this thread, I'm saying we
do in fact have the budget to get rid of him. And I think a new
coach could come in and immediately turn things around, so the
near term future doesn't have to be so bleak.
I was infuriated to find out Heilbron extended Priore before the
2022 season. I'm less convinced that Heilbron needs to be fired
over that mistake than others, but that's assuming he makes this
right by firing Priore now.

I'd argue investing in athletics IS investing in the student
social experience

Maybe right in theory but it hasn’t worked out in reality. SB is
a weekend commuter school and has a large Asian population.
Neither group cares much whether football sucks or has a .500
season. Basketball has more widespread appeal to all groups
(games are played during the week). Putting the money towards
football instead of basketball and other non-sport programs has
proven (and will continue to prove) to be a waste. Hofstra
learned that years ago…and they were winning.

I am respectfully disagreeing with you. The football program
peaked a few years ago under the prior ad. Basketball peaked
under the last ad. Basketball used to be full in they gym and
when the new place reopened. The new place has about 1/3 the
people they used to have at games and the same with football. It
was a commuter school back then with a diverse student
population. What happened to broadcasting games in different
languages that was started a few years ago? Like everything else
they announce it do it once and thats it. thats on the ad and
his people. How do you answer that? it was a commuter school
then too.
