drexel wins 6-4, both teams looked bad.
so now we have a chance to 1) beat hofstra, 2) get into the
coastal, 3) beat towson/delaware and possibly fairfield, each of
which beat us, and 4) get into the NCAAs. GO SB

Stony Brook men’s lacrosse hosts Hofstra with playoff destiny
out of its hands

drexel wins, so we have a chance if we beat hof tomorrow (noon
at lavalle).
also, towson beats delaware for the 1 seed. that's probably
good for us.

hof at SB, if SB wins, it sneaks into the coastal to play
towson. hof is done after this. they've totaled 9 wins, the
best of which is... drexel, right in the middle of the pack. so
that's not great. it is senior day, the weather's good,
rivalry, and SB playing for something.
defense playing ok so far, which has been a trend this last
month. forced two shot clock violations early. despite that,
hof in control of the game, 4-2 hof end of 1.

halftime, 6-3 hof.
lots of flags, poor shooting, offense has been in a funk for a
while now. hof doesnt look much better.

lost 11-9. season over, spoiled by hof. ended up 4-10, very
disappointing altogether. i think most would agree that this
was underachievement- doing less with more.
the defense got much better starting in april. right around
that same time- bonacci and behlen got hurt (i think?) and the
offense went into a funk- one that i havent seen us go through
in many many years. we just couldnt shoot today, not normally
an issue.
this would be the first time ever not making the conference
tourney- asterisks- joined the AE in 2002, and ineligible when
leaving (we wouldve made it that year, record-wise), and then
the covid year in 2020. so depending on how you look at it
(because the Coastal is arguably a step up), that's a new low.
of course, other programs are better than they ever were...
a lot of year can summarized with non-competitive faceoff play,
a goalie switch, poor team defense (feb/march), poor offense
(april), lack of urgency at times (today, fairfield), and losing
to teams we should beat (hof, fu, monmouth, pc, afa).
15 seniors go. at 1-7 in the last two months (we do NOT play a
difficult schedule), maybe this is a good thing- let's clear out
the roster and have a think about what to do differently in the
CAA. because our second best win should never be SHU.

This season is a disaster. Most underachieving team ever to wear
the Stony Brook uniform.
A mutual friend of ours hinted that this finish might have a
negative impact on Pallonetti's draftability. He has to take
some blame for this even if his offensive production was solid
all year.
But the biggest target for blame has to rest with the coaching
staff. You had two of the top scorers in the country and you
don't even make your conference playoffs?
Was this team properly prepared for games, were they being
correctly utilized? There are a lot of questions going into next
year.
And the worst of it is, why would any top players come here
after the experience Pallonetti had?

After football, men’s lacrosse is the biggest disappointment at
SBU. It’s embarrassing at 4-9 that they even had a chance for
the conference tourney. I don’t know how long Gilardi’s contract
goes but he should be on the hot seat. Another underperformance
like this cannot be tolerated.
