2024 Men's DI Conference Previews: CAA
  HTML https://www.insidelacrosse.com/article/2024-men-s-di-conference-previews-caa/62536
       [quote]
One of the most competitive conferences in men's lacrosse at the
Division I level, the CAA appears primed for another vintage
four-team race for the coveted automatic qualifier come the
       postseason.
Delaware was selected as the preseason favorites after two
straight CAA Tournament and regular-season titles, but will key
losses on either end of the field mean programs like Stony Brook
and Drexel have more of a chance in 2024?
2024 CAA Men’s Lacrosse Preseason Poll
       Team (1st)
       1. Delaware (6)
       2. Stony Brook (2)
       3. Towson
       4. Drexel
       5. Hofstra
       6. Fairfield
       7. Monmouth
       8. Hampton
       2. Stony Brook (1-0)
       2023 Record: 9-7, 5-2 (CAA runners-up)
RELATED: 'One-Sixth': Pallonetti, Depth Set Stony Brook
       Expectations High
The Seawolves’ first season in the CAA since making the move
from the America East saw them put up a good fight in the
conference tournament championship tilt vs. Delaware.
Similar to Delaware, head coach Anthony Gilardi’s program has
sported six-straight winning seasons and brings back a strong
contingent of Long Island native veterans who are hungry to make
some noise in their final seasons.
The headliner is Dylan Pallonetti, but key graduate senior role
players surround the crafty left-hander. Add British Columbia
native Noah Armitage coming out of the box with LSM Christian
Lowd —who Gilardi and Pallonetti both stress is one of the most
underrated players in the country— and close defenseman Michael
Sabella fortifying things on the other end and Stony Brook will
be looking to usurp the Hens in their second season in the CAA.

No. 15 Rutgers (-5.5) at Stony Brook (26.5)
       💰Money Line: Rutgers (-950); Stony Brook (+530)
       🥍 Game Total: 26.5
       ⏰ Saturday at noon

Rutgers battled back from an early 5-2 deficit to defeat Lehigh
last week in New Jersey. They now head to Long Island to face
Stony Brook, which had to come back themselves against Sacred
Heart. Last week, I mentioned that Rutgers needed a balanced
scoring attack to find success this season. Seven Scarlet
Knights scored at least one goal in the win, led by Shane
Knobloch and Jack Aimone, both with a hat trick. The Seawolves,
led by Nick Dupuis and Dylan Pallonetti, had eight players score
at least a goal in Sunday’s win.

lost 16-12 to #14 RU. made it a game there for a bit in the
fourth but first half lost too many faceoffs.
next up- PSU. they were #4 last week but got upset against
       colgate.

Ross Scott put forth a balanced three goals and three assists,
Jack Aimone tied his career-high with four goals and Tanyr
Krummenacher scored three goals and an assist in Rutgers' 16-12
       road win vs. the Seawolves.
Noah Armitage and Justin Bonacci both had hat tricks for Stony
Brook, but the Scarlet Knights controlled possession with a
21-of-32 day from the face-off X from Cole Brams and Matt
Soutar. That advantage yielded a 13-6 lead in the second half
before Stony Brook climbed back to a 14-12 scoreline. Cardin
Stoller made nine saves to anchor a defense that prevented the
Seawolves from scoring for the final 8:28.

       9-5 PSU at half.
good first Q, bad second Q. shorties letting PSU shoot from
range and they're sometimes landing. faceoffs improved.
impatient offense, shooting into the goalie's stick.

       lost 14-10 to #13 psu.
critical moment- 11min in the third Q, down 9-7, have a wide
open look, goes wide. next shot from low angle, no one backs it
up. PSU goes down, scores, and then again, and then again, and
       then again.
not sure if that was behlen walking on crutches but he was
       injured late.
