I do feel like we'll continue to see CAA teams raid the lower
conferences. Charleston's had some success with D-IIs, Tyler
Thomas and Xander Rice are among those who have seamlessly made
the leap, and of course the core of our team has done the same
(Maidoh, Snoddy, Clarke and Noll, although he's from a better
league I guess). The high D-I guys look better on paper of
course, but the better guys in these leagues can all contribute
here.
I also wonder if, with two years on his contract, Geno pays much
attention to high school seniors when older guys are the ones
who will help him keep his job.
Lastly, BTW, I was dead wrong about Sobel being a legitimate D-I
kid. He's averaging 12 and 7 on 59 percent shooting for Sacred
Heart and, oh by the way, is sixth in the country in blocks per
game at 2.86 a night. Would have been a good fit and a cool
story. Maybe Nico Galette for a year?

After the confirmation from heilbron here's me rough depth chart
for next year pending 3 portal spots and potential transfer
outs:
PG: Toby O, Space
SG: J Frey, Frederick
SF: Philip, P Frey
PF: Snoddy, Gorman
C: Fitz, Nahar
Feels like we could use another 2 shooters.
[/quote]
Philip is a Grad Transfer. Did he get a waiver for another
year, similar to Fitz ????????????
Also, unless something has changed, Rocco Muratori will be back;
he went out on some undisclosed season-ending injury this year.
EDIT: I failed to read @SBUFAN's post above today; that
definitely lends itself to Philip and Fitz coming back, which is
good news.

Guys who I find interesting are these D-IIs who look the part of
a D-I. For example, the kid James Patterson from STAC, which
wins a million games every year. He averaged 24 and 9 as a
sophomore this year, and I have to think he'll garner
All-America accolades as D-II's fourth ranked scorer nationally.
He looks like a good athlete who can finish through contact, get
on the glass and handle it OK. Same thing with this kid Deng
Deang at Post. He had 31 and 10 against Patterson a week ago;
Patterson had 31 and 12. I'm interested to see where they'll end
up.
We have had guys go down to D-II but not up from there that I
can think of (although Almonacy did both – guy had almost 1300
career pts so pretty good). Some CAA teams, especially
Charleston, have dipped into the D-II and even D-III ranks for
talent. There's something to say for guys who have 70 or 80 or
100 games with serious production under their belts. Patterson
will certainly land at a D-I; it's just a question of how high.
Might even be higher than here. I have no idea on academics,
interest, attitude, etc., but he appears to be a guy who could
help here.
The portal is so crazy. AJ Storr leaves St. John's, lands at
Wisconsin, leads them in scoring, probably back in the portal.
Aaron Estrada, Oregon, then St. Peter's, stars at Hofstra, now
is a major contributor in helping Alabama reach the Sweet 16.
Timberlake stars at Towson, barely plays for Kansas, then gets
thrust into a central role with injuries. Nelson makes the
tournament with TCU and contributes. It has got to be exhausting
for coaches. Anybody could get a call on any day from anywhere.
You heard Bill Self say after the tournament loss (or win, I
forget) that he's been thinking about next year for the last
month. Bonkers.
Edit: With the Muttilib news, the emphasis on scoring is clear.
Do you tweet #ImaSeawolf if you're not in fact going to become a
Seawolf?

2024 Kilgore College (TX) G Jamil Muttilib has received an offer
from Stony Brook. Looks like Asst Coach Avery may be walking,
as Asst Coach Kuken (sounds like a promotion) made the offer.
