Hofstra is doing really well since they dropped football.
Heilbron had big dreams for football but he left the wrong guy
in charge. Being appreciative of hard work is expensive and not
a reason to keep a program. Thats an emotional reaction and not
one based on wins or losses or finances.
Another year of bad attendance and probably two wins. But you'll
be able to say you have football while the coach gets richer for
doing less. And since he is still around i am guessing Heilbron
will still be around for another few years after probably being
secretly extended. Secret Extention University. They dont
publicize extensions because they are probably embarrassed. And
you guys will all agree with the decision.

SBU should not and will not drop our football program.
Those evaluating the possibility are not appreciative of the
hard work so many have put for the University to be where it is
today.
Yes, our football program is struggling a lot. Yes, it finds
itself in a vicious downward spiral of losses/apathy/losses.
But this program will remain and we need to support it. We have
great facilities, we have the size, and we have enough
commitment from the administration to support football at this
level.
Wrong, dead wrong in many ways. Hofstra dropped their football
for good reasons, and their history is a lot better than SBU is.
Sometimes you just gotta say no, and let a failing organization
fail!!! Clearly, SBU is going in a different direction, and that
direction is not football.
Hofstra is a relatively small, expensive private school without
the economies of scale in addition to the state support to back
a football program.
There is a reason why most D1 FBS/FCS Football programs operate
a large state universities.

I would think the cost to run the football program in the same
conference would be about the same. And they dropped their
program when they were doing very well. Look at the players they
sent to the NFL who had long careers. SB? Nope. If you have
been to the SB stadium you will notice if you look that it
appears to be falling apart. Cracks in the walls around the
field. Our daughter said the elevator is a death trap waiting to
happen. They cant afford to maintain their stadium or they dont
care to maintain it. They have had five losing seasons in a row
and secretly extended the coach. If you like the coach thats a
good thing. Most people want to see a program be successful.
many would argue that the success of SB football the past 15
years is because Hofstras players came here. There doesnt seem
to be any pride in appearance or success there and its kind of
obvious. And a lot of people have said that administrators dont
seem to care. Its hard to disagree with those people.

Indeed correct. I used to say "sadly correct" but nobody cares
about football anymore. So there is nothing sad about it.
SBU rewards employees who underperform at this University. Just
keep your mouth shut, do as I say, don't question, and don't
deviate from our policies. Do those things then you will be
rewarded handsomely.

And the coach has named a starting qb who has never been on
campus and who has never thrown a pass in college before camp
opens and before he sees any of his other qbs throw a pass.

That elevator is one of the slowest I've ever come across. SBU
coaches don't even bother taking it up and down anymore because
they'll miss the entire half if they do. I forget which team it
was, but a couple of visiting coaches got stuck in the elevator
within the last five or so years, and they were pissed. One very
loudly suggested that SBU had purposely fucked with them. But
no, that elevator is just terrible.

The elevator is slow, but it always was slow. Even when new.
Never understood why.
And if those coaches want to get an extra workout in climbing
the stairs, more power to 'em. I'm lugging equipment so I'll be
patient. Especially because I know the elevator is slow.
As for the stadium's condition, I never noticed significant
deterioration, just a little wear and tear from 20 years of use.
I've seen much worse in college facilities.
And the new scoreboard does put some kind of fresh face on it.
But if forced to choose, I'd rather have a winning team.
The starting QB has been through spring and summer practices so
has indeed thrown passes at SB, just not in a game yet.
Whatever you think of Casey Case, picking someone before the
season starts versus several weeks in like last year is probably
a better strategy.
